Great shot, Kelson. I am a beginner. Can you tell me about the shot, how you captured this image? Thanks.

I have been admiring your work for some time now and want to know what is this effect that you use? Obviously, I am a noobie.

The eagle and the locomotive: natural versus man-made - great commentary.

So if I am looking at the sigma 17-70, I shouldn't buy the 35mm too? Is that because of the overlap of focal length, or would I get better results from the prime versus the zoom? TIA.

Not to "horn" in on the OP's post, but I have a question about a shot I took there last year. My color rendition is pretty close to what the eye saw. Is what I am seeing here a result of something else? I did very little pp to this image and would love some feedback.

I sometimes shoot with a Rokinon 14mm that we got for use with our old D70S, but I like it very, very much on our D800, even though it seems not to be chipped. When I look over a set of images in Creative Cloud - taken with various lens, the ones from the 14mm do not list the focal length, and it is a manual lens which suits me just fine. It will, however give exposure values via the camera metering system. I think at the time, it was less costly than one with a chip, but maybe I "mis-remember".

I once fronted a band that played reggae, rock and blues. I was the lead singer, played guitar and percussion and wrote most of the material. I walked away from the stage when I realized I was never going to make a living doing it, but boy did I love it!

Many thanks Don. After I can boil down my dilemma into fewer than 1000 words, I will come back and ask for input (dangerous around here, I know🤓)

Thanks Hal! As soon as I settle on a new camera, I'll be itching to roam!

Hello all. I have been an avid reader of the digest for many months now and finally decided to publicly thank all of you for the many things I have learned from your posts. I am, in local vernacular, an "old head" who has had a long relationship with with the camera. Mostly film, when younger, but after joining the digital flood with a D70s, and then putting the camera down for far too long, my son (majoring in photography at Tyler) has reawakened my love of images, through his stunning work. I strive to gain some of what I have forgotten and to exceed that, as there is much room for growth. Again, thanks to all for sharing. BTW: for digital rookies like me, it is so helpful when shots are accompanied with technical info and techniques utilized to achieve what is presented.
