Was a difficult shot with a first DSLR. D750 with an old AI 105 micro Nikkor f4 manual focus. Web was blowing back and forth about 2 inches in the wind and the depth of field was nil. AF would have been useless. Its a Spiny backed orb weaving spider about a 1/4 inch in diameter. Slight crop and lost exposure info. Was a good learning exercise.

Great shot. I love my D750 but still have 96% to learn! Still use a lot of old AI primes. 85mm 1.8 and 105 micro are favs.

Great shots. Perfect lighting. They are great flyers. I've got a pair with two chicks at the end of my street.

Nice shots! I live in SW Florida and have an Osprey nest at the end of the street by Sarasota bay. There are two chicks getting ready to fly real soon.

Went with D750 with 24-120 F4 kit. 900buck instant rebate! All my old Nikkors AI's Work great in A or M mode. 24 and 28 2.8 can go on e-bay.

Went with a D750 with 24-120 F4 kit. $900 dollar instant rebate. Really happy. All my old prime AI's work great in M or A mode. 24 & 28 2.8's going on E-Bay. Keeping 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 105micro f4, 80-200 one touch 4.5 and 300 f4.5 prime. Also have a decent 2x teleconverter that works well with the 300mm.

Don't appreciate your " don't open mouth comment! The header to my post stated that was new to DSLR! Had the camera for one day. Lots to learn. CHILL! Sorry I posted " Stop Down Metering" instead of will the camera Stop down the lens.

I went with a D750 kit with AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 ED VR lens. Old AI lenses work fine in M or S modes. I might try out shooting some video too.

I have a 300 4.5 AI and a 2x teleconverter What do i set for F-stop in the non CPU lens menu for this combo? 600mm and what F stop?

Thanks Im leaning towards that. Got a lot of old sweet lenses I don't mind using in manual focus. Probably need a 7100, 7200 minimum for DX which would probably extend the focal length of my AI lenses.

Used manual focus. No big deal especially on short focal lengths. Ill probably get AF something in the future but I still think some of the old brass and glass was sharper edge to edge than some of the new stuff especially in FX format. AI 24 2.8, 28 2.8, 35 2.8, 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 135 3.5, 80-200 one touch, 300 4.5, 2x teleconverter, 50 mm EL nikkor and F mount, bellows.

I think thats what I want. JUST to be able to use the old sweet clunky Nikors I have like my 80-200 one touch or 85 1.8. Auto focus not an issue. Looking at a B&H catalog I have a goldmine in old Nikors all of which have been AI if they were not purchased that way. Are the new lenses as good?

I am new to DSLR but not digital cameras. I have several AI film bodys and Some F bodies. What would be a good choice to use my AI lenses in manual focus mode but still have stopdown metering? My research seems to show a D7100 at the least might work? Should I go with a FX sensor body?
