The dual iso feature is not available in the stable version of ML at this time (unless they released a new one yesterday).
It's available in the nightly builds. This is the more "bleeding edge", untested version with new features (such as dual iso and auto ETTR).

The stable version is......stable and it is not difficult to install. The ML site support page provides very detailed installation instructions and uninstall instructions.
I don't believe anyone has ever fried or bricked their camera loading and using even the nightly builds. The nightly builds can, potentially cause the camera to freeze but if you take the battery out for a few seconds then replace and power up....you're back in business.

There is a possibility that ML will damage your camera in the same sense that it is possible that Scarlet Johannson will knock on my door to tell me she can't live another day without me.

"There is a possibility that ML will damage your camera in the same sense that it is possible that Scarlet Johannson will knock on my door to tell me she can't live another day without me." Thank you for that characterization! And for the very succinct and knowledgeable explanation. This should put a end to any questions and to this discussion.

Here is a direct quote from link that I gave in my post:

"According to Magic Lantern, there are some downsides to using the Dual ISO firmware, though. Vertical resolution is reduced by half and there's more moiré and aliasing in over and underexposed areas. The author also warns that since this software modifies the sensor's operation, you could end up frying your camera."

Considering that it comes from the Magic Lantern source, I will trust it more than your own opinion. Of course, as I already mentioned this is only consideration if you add it as firmware

Good point. I guess I would leave that feature alone, while using the more proven.

This sounds like a good deal but it also sounds like I need to be a lot more technically savvy in order not to screw up my camera. I think I will wait until I master the basic T3 options before I add this - if it is even available for my camera.

Naw. Not tech savy to keep from screwing it up, just savy enough to get it loaded. It took me a little while to get the idea but then I got it up and running on the first try. Just read the instructions one item at a time and carry out one task at a time. You can't screw anything up anyway. Its on the memory card, not overwriting the firmware already loaded in the camera internal memory. Important point.

you can look up here:

I have been thinking to add as firmware for my Canon 7D, mostly for its HDR advantages, but am waiting to see other comments. This thread is helping me to decide, but still I am afraid about "frying the camera". As software for the card sounds safer.

Again, read the posts above. Nobody has "fried" their camera. I have used it in my T2i without a hitch, so it'll be good for your mark iiis and 7Ds or whatever. No prob. As one post said, you just drop the battery out to reboot. Its not going to ruin anything.

8-) 8-) 8-) What can you do with it that you can not do without it?

You guys gotta be kidd'n! What can you do with it? It turns a regular Canon, as good as they are, into a super instrument! As the others with experience have suggested, read the forums and descriptions, look at sample pics. If you don't find anything you think you can use then don't mess with it cause it is a job to get it set up. Depends, also, if you are into still or video. Just about anything you can't do with a Canon now, can be done with the enhancement of Magic Lantern.

Rubbish, get your facts right before you post please.
I have used it for ages now, and the one time when the camera did fail to boot (my fault, I'm sure) you just flick open the battery door and release the battery.

thanx, good to know

Never happened to me. Always been flawless. Hey, they have to put out a warning just in case someone screws it up and blames them! And anyway, I think all one would have to do is get a download to reinstall the original firmware. Very minimal risk.

Yes, its very tedious. I tried focus stacking but wasn't all that successful. The few times I actually did get it to work it was amazing. Extending exposure bracketing to 5 and sometimes 7 was extremely easy though I don't use it that much anymore. I also tried the extended shutter speed to over 2 minutes. That worked well with Magic Lantern but, like with focus stacking, my own results with the actual exposure wasn't great. It would take a lot of practice. With the success I did have with still photos I am sure the video module would be equally good.

It worked well for me after reading all their material, and have never had any "safety" issues with the camera at all.

I found that I had to read all their material/read me's thoroughly to download and use Magic Lantern for T2i, but it was worth it. I haven't used it for video but, for instance, the focus menu was fun, and it enhanced bracketing by adding 5 or even 7 exposures for extreme HDR. Worked good once I read up.
