Oh, good ... do you have one showing the alpha a77 II, or is it older, showing the a77 as the top dog?

I just looked and I couldn't find it.

Polonois ... I suspect the problem you're having is to do with the Multi-Interface Flash, on the newer a77 II - which is a little different than the hot-shoe on the a77 and a65 - both much older models. I think the HVL-F60 was designed with the older models, in mind. There might be a newer unit available now, for the a77 II ... have a look at B&H ... see what they have ...

Just looked them up in the B&H Catalogue ... the top Sony flash unit, now - seems to be the HVL-F60RM ($600) ... seems to be the ticket, eh?

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Polonois ... I don't have the a65 (wanted one) so I have no way to compare sizes, but, if it's a smaller body, such as the a58, which, effectively, replaced it - it's easy to see why you might have difficulty ... whilst the lens flange is the same - the overhang is very different. The larger a77 bodies, will easily accommodate an adapter, but, I don't think my a58 (or your a65) will ... so - perhaps, it is "crowded" by the overhang, and that's why it overheats .... ?

The A65 body is somewhat smaller.
This might be a better explanation of what happens with the flashes.
I use the HVLF-58AM on the A65 with no problems, I use the other HVLF-58AM on the A77ii with the Sony supplied adapter no problems either.
When using the HVL-F60M on the A77ii the flash heats up rather quickly and the flash shuts off, not the camera. After it cools a few minutes it works again till it shuts off.
I don't use the HVL-F60M on the A65 ever. I use the HVLF-58AMs on both cameras. One with an adapter and one without never any problems. Most of the time I leave the HVL-F60M at home. It only gets used when I need to only take a few shots.

You didn't say either, Polonois ... but, it occurred to me, you might have bought some E lenses, as you said it heated up, on you ...

A to E - with an adapter ... you can't go the other way ....

I'm aware of that it's the HVLF-60 that heats up after a few shots

Polonois ... were those "E" lenses you bought to use on your Sony SLT bodies? ...

If so - did nobody tell you that won't work?

The adapters you can purchase (LA-EA3, LA-EA4) are for allowing use of a-mount lenses - on E-Mount bodies, such as the FF a7 series, and the a6000s.

Where did I say I bought E-mount? Sorry I bought A-mount Sony just after I bought the A65. It's the flashes, the HVLF-58AMs that won't fit the A77ii without an adapter and the HVLF-60 Fits the A77ii but not the A65.

And BOTH of those are very fine cameras, Polonois ... particularly, the a77 II ... I have one, too, as well as its predecessor - the a77. I also went looking for an a65, but found it had been discontinued, in favor of the a58, and later (now - just recently introduced) the a68. Since it's a fairly new introduction, don't bet on Sony abandoning this line, anytime, soon ... but with them getting $3-4G for each of those over-rated a7 series MILCs they sell, I don't blame them for putting the SLT line on hold, for a while, - do you? ... Sony NOT a real camera company??? ... They're very much real - as real as Canon and Nikon. And, Nikon just released their Z series FF line, to compete with Sony's offerings, so they MUST think Sony is real enough - don't they?

Yeah, 3 months after I bought my A65 they were discontinued. Typical of Sony.
I hope your correct about being on hold however, I don't see it.

I have a pair of Sony bodies an SLT-A65V and an ICLA-77ii. I chose Sony over a real camera company like Nikon or Cannon because I had a Minolta 9Xi and an 8000i body, and over 40 lenses.I even purchased 6 of Sony's overpriced lenses and a pair of HLVF-58 flashes. Which won't fit the A77ii without an adapter and an overpriced HLVF-60 which overheats after a few shots and shuts off. I thought the natural choice was to switch to Sony to be able to use all the lenses I owned and I would save. Just to have Sony abandon the A-Mount in favor of an E-mount. What a joke, Sony shows their true colors again. Start mourning, the A-mount it will go the way of the Beta-max. All the Sony mirror-less guys be prepared in a few years you will have the same problem. That's what Sony does. Look at what happened to all their other products. I am soon about to switch and I can assure you it wont be Sony.
