No comparison to the eagerly awaited tests I used to crave on a monthly basis. they were full bench tests with all the charts and data results. Too bad on their demise, but I saw it coming a long time ago.

I forgot to mention a good magazine to read: Shutterbug!!!!

My main issue with this camera always was the way it went through those little button batteries like candy.

Mine is being used with the LX motor-drive. it shoots extremely fast with it, but I never have a problem with the bottom cell batteries. I guess it is because most of the power being used comes from the motor dive rather than the camera.

Wow, you still have and use your LX, that was my favorite camera for many years, but it got stolen! (Lucky you)!!

Yes I still do. it has a viewfinder that most today's digital cameras especially APS-C cannot match. That's for sure; and one of the reasons why I never went digital at the beginning of the digital era.

Because of the decline Pentax experienced during their lean years, today Pentax seems to be focusing their efforts on landscape and portraiture. Some users have shown good action shots, but a certain amount of experience/ skill seems to be needed. If you want to see fireworks, go over to the Pentax Forums and give AF as your reason for buying some other brand {but Nikon's business has been down, so I'm sure you've brought some joy into their world}

Absolutely (laughing) I am a registered Pentax Forum member. I would definitely star the fireworks with a post like this.

Pentax had issues when the field took hard turns, first to AutoFocus then to digital, which goes with my time using Canon. They seem to finally be back with good products, which goes with my now using a K-30, but I'm not sure how they would do if there is another turn, to more MILC for example.

Yes. the autofocus system of the K1 was one of the factors that made me buy the Nikon D750. my daughter does field and track. I do take picture of her running. The Nikon autofocus system does a better job than the Pentax K1 from what I gathered of all the reviews I read when comparing both cameras. When I get my K1 system will be mainly for portraiture/family and friends photography when not using my film cameras. I just love film for portraiture.

I'm guessing this is in response to my comment, but conversations can become confusing /complex, so it is best to use "Quote Reply" rather than just "Reply" when responding to a comment.

Yes it was. I was trying to figure that one out when I replied but was unable. Now I know. Thanks.

yes. I do know that, but my film lenses are not that great (as far as maximum aperture). Most of my lenses with the exception of my 50mm are kind of slow: f3.5 to f5.6 and I wanted new modern lens with faster aperture with a digital system. anyway I am sure that in a couple of years Pentax will have a better selection of lens to pick from, then I will get a digital Pentax system for me. Since the first system I bought(see above post) was for my daughter.

On my previous reply I forgot to mention that the first ever digital camera that I bought was the Pentax D500 with 3 lenses, but they were not for me, the system was for my daughter that wanted a DSLR after I introduce her to photography using my Pentax and Chinon film cameras.

Pentax film cameras shooter since the early 80's. Just last month I bought my first digital camera system ever. I went with Nikon (D750/24-120 f4 +Tamron 70-200 f2.8) due to price (I saved over $1500 in comparison to similar Pentax system) and lens selection availability. I still love/use a lot my Pentax cameras (LX and PZ1). I have not discarded the notion of a new Pentax FF digital system in the future. I like a lot better their ergonomics and function interactions over Nikon.

Thank you all, and Merry Xmas!! well as I guessed, and that was the reason of my post: to confirm. I will have to get new everything; if I want to be able to process my own images, once I buy a new digital camera nex year.
New question: anybody with a recommendation of a good monitor calibration system? I had read about them, but still do not know which are good enough for home use, where lighting conditions are not as controlled as in a digital darkroom used by pros.

I'm a little confused here. You first say you have no experience with digital cameras and then you go on to say that APC-S never did it for me because of their viewfinders . You can't have it both ways. Either you are familiar with digital or you're not. I have a crop Canon 7D Mark II with a very bright 100% viewfinder. The crop sensor Nikon D7200 also has a bright 100% viewfinder. What are you basing your opinion on?

to answer MWSilvers reply, I said:I have no experience at all with digital cameras, all I know is that the APC cameras never did it for me, because of their viewfinders. they cannot match the brightness of my film cameras; at least the ones that over the years I tried at the stores.

As other poster correctly read; my handling of any digital camera has been at the local big stores, like: Best Buy, Wal- Mart, BrandsMart, etc. normally, all of these store only carry the lower tier cameras (APC), I have never been able to have in my hands a full frame, but from what I read, they have brighter viewfinders over APCs. I still maintain that all APCs I have handle at the local stores over the years do not match the brightness of the viewfinders of my film cameras like the Pentax LX.

At Jethro and Dick Z. Thanks for your input. I think that my greatest concern is to get the right computer set up for pprocessing and printing.

Hi all, and thanks in advance!! I am in need of some input. After shooting film since I got my first camera (1980), I have decided that next year, after Pentax releases their first FF, I will decide if I want to go with the Pentax or the Nikon 750 for my first digital ever camera, now that FFs are affordable. I have no experience at all with digital cameras, all I know is that the APC cameras never did it for me, because of their viewfinders. they cannot match the brightness of my film cameras; at least the ones that over the years I tried at the stores.

What is it, in terms of being able to process the captured images, that I would need in order to print correctly a picture that let's say it was perfectly exposed.

My computer is about 10 years old with windows XP on it, and using the integrated video from the motherboard, and a so,so AMD CPU, and 1 gig of hard drive memory, and 2 gig of RAM. I have an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner and an Epson Stylus Photo R320 printer. My monitor is a $180.00 Acer. Is this enough? I know the cameras come with their own suite for processing images. Is it better with, let's say Adobe Photoshop? or it does not matter.
Or should I just bring the memory card to my photofinisher here in South Florida (Dale Laboratories, they are great), and have them process the images if it is too much of a hassle and/or too much time for doing it oneself; since I am planning on making prints. I have not experience at all processing digital images coming directly from a camera. Should I get a new computer? Thanks.
