Thanks very much, very helpful. What type of scanner? and where do you scan them to? directly into SSD or should scan into LR on my dedicated laptop.
I have been taking photos on and off for 50 years. I have 12 albums full. I would like to get them all on SSD. Then I can view them on my dedicated laptop. Should I attempt this or is there a co. that does this. Has anyone on this form done this? I do have 2 different scanners and plenty of time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yes I have restarted LR, still side panels are small. Next I will contact Adobe.

I have newly acquired BEN Q monitor. I opened LR and the side panel text I can barely read. I have enlarged text in settings for PC, and in all other apps the text is perfect. I cannot figure out how to enlarge text.
I learned to drive in that beautiful pink car. My future husband bought that car used in the late 50's. Good times were had.
This whole backup gets me so totally confused, and I do not consider myself computer illiterate.
I have carbonate and I used to back up my photos to WD passport. I have looked at Synology, and the price is within my budget. I backup LR catalog every time I use the program. But just how do I backup the photos alone? I also have a Raid which I was using old Hard drives from previous computers. Is that practical? I always keep the hard drives when I upgrade computers. I had a crash and was able to save about 90% of my photos but they were all over the place. Then I got Carbonate. Please help me understand.

I want to thank everyone who replied to my problem. I understand most, but my brain could not understand where to find the photos. My photos now are all over the place, one drive, drop box, and different backup drives. I just need to wrap my head around where to put them when I import them. I copy to LRC, but not sure where they go after that. Again thanks to all.
I know all this but putting into place is what I do not understand how to do. I backup my LRCAT file whenever I quit LR and I am aware that LR is a database, but where do I go to backup my images? In the import file on right there is a check box to import images to 2nd file, do I use this? Sorry if this all sounds simple or beginning LR, but I just do not understand. And what does sync. accomplish?
