High Speed Ektachrome pushed to 400. Great for race cars and motorcycles, and jumping horses.

And:

"Key Largo" with Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall; to me, the definitive post-war movie.

Yup, it's the sway bar. If it was the tie rod, the car would have to be unwrapped from around a telephone pole. The bolts were badly rusted and failed, probably one side (unnoticed), then the other.

And, yes, with that much rust, it's time for a new ride. That failure was kind of a warning. Could be more serious next time. (Like maybe a lower control arm.)

All the best.

It's taking way too much time -- but I get hooked on reading these back and forth trading of insults posts! It graphically demonstrates how the mind works for some seemingly intelligent (in an extremely limited fashion) people!!! I even enjoy inciting their wrath on occasion, just to determine whether there's a ray of hope for a breakthrough in perception and diminution of ego!!!

Excellent. I too have been working with computers, including DOS, OS2 and Unix System 7. I've programed in at least 8 different languages, and wrote my first program in 1964.....

Your experience is far more vast than mine. I remember programming in Fortran in college in probably 1965. Hated it! All that time punching cards (and repunching, and repunching...). All to do calcs I could do far faster with my slip-stick.

I needed something for word processing in the early 1980s, for articles I was writing at the time. Bought an Apple II and software. Worked great. Couple of years later, the owner of a shop I was writing an article about asked me to help "computerize" his business. Sure, no problem. Oh, PCs? DOS? Oooops! Uhhh, sure. Give me a couple of weeks, gotta finish up a few jobs. Called a friend who had an IBM PC. Hey, I need some help. Sure, no problem. I'll show you everything you need to know. We'll trade. I need you to write a math routine for me too. I knew enough to stay a few weeks ahead of everybody else.

Same deal a few years later in the defense industry, converting from mainframes to PCs. Bought a bunch of white-box computer parts, built a clone PC on a card table. Hmmm, what does it look like that plugs into this thing? "Hey, he built his own computer, he must know a lot." Oh, yeah.

Same thing a few years later at a major state agency, again going from main frames to PCs, Windoze this time. Just staying a few weeks ahead of everybody else. "He's the Guru." Well, I guess if you can stay a few weeks ahead of everybody else, it could look that way.

Yes, we seem to share similar views on post processing. Having the in-camera processor do most of the work, works fine for me. I am sure there are those who can utilize the raw files to turn out great works of art. I have no such abilities. If imagemeister and Ken Rockwell can turn out the art they do shooting jpegs, shooting raw is not going to elevate me to their level. I use the tools that work for me. Others make their own choices. But the art is in the result, not the process.

All the best.

Myself, I have lots more fun sitting at the computer. ...

My only thought for you is IMO, you are missing out on a lot by not spending more time with your photo's on the computer.....

I've spent most of the last 40 years working with computers (Apple II, pc/ms dos, Windoze, and more Windoze, and more Windoze, a little Mac, and for the last several years Linux) so the newness has worn off a bit. (Computers have been very, very good to me professionally. ) But I certainly do PP (most of) my photos as I see the need. I have used GIMP and Rawtherapee and found them to very capable. But when I processed raw files, they were pretty much about as good as the im-camera jpegs. So for me, making adjustments to the in-camera jpegs seems to work the best. I almost always need to crop, sometimes adjust color, contrast, brightness, etc., etc. It's just a lot easier for me to work from the jpeg, most of the work is already done.

I have great respect for those who can turn out beautiful art. Unfortunately that isn't me. (For me, if someone says, "That camera takes great pictures," that's a complement.

Yes, I have done darkroom work, and sold some photos over the years (race cars, motorcycles, jumping horses) even sold stories to magazines with photos. Not that they were great art or great photos, pretty much just maybe good (or OK).

I like the instant processing of digital photography, and much prefer post processing on a computer than in a darkroom (and the sitting down rather than standing). But these days (probably at least partially due to advancing age) post processing is just kind of a chore. I do it because I want my photos to be as good as I can make them. But I can get to my level of expertise from the jpeg. For me, working from raw just eats up a lot more time, and results in more frustration, than just touching up the jpeg. Works for me.

I am certainly very glad that raw files are available to those can make use of them, but I know my limitation, so jepgs work best for me.

Thanks for your reply. All the best.

That's all I need to hear. I think I'll spend my time taking photos, improving my technique, composition, lighting, positioning, etc.

I just wanted to say that the black and white cityscape is fantastic. Something about it is just eye-catching!
