Yup these appear to be baseball photos so I'd say that 80-200mm lens was working...

All things being equal I hate to hear about your lens getting knocked out. Did it crack the lens or hit the side of your lens? I'm super curious... where were you standing? I have worried about being up against the netting near the dugouts when shooting batters at the plate.

Ok, granted! I have only had my D7200 since January and I still have a great deal to learn. Often, I think of the various settings that I should have used after returning home. Most recent was our Easter trip to the beach. Thinking later, I needed to spend more prep time with settings as beach photography in mid-day with cloudless skies is a challenge.

So, eager to share, as my wife wants pictures for her facebook, I sent her my link to Google photos. I tried to explain that some of the photos have not yet been "processed" but to no avail, "how come your pictures are so light?" "You have this "expensive" camera!" (One I bought for surviving 80 years of life, not marriage but working on year 26!). "And, why do Samsung; iPhone and Google Plex photos look so much better?"

I must admit! There is truth to that statement. Discouraging! I am feeling like an artist that does want to show his or her work to anyone! Yes, photography is an art! I need to tame my enthusiasm a bit before sharing any of my photos. Does that sound defensive? Yes, it is!

No, I'm not ready to visit eBay and list my camera. I need to keep working on stuff!

Someday I will have the courage to upload something to this website.
Ok, granted! I have only had my D7200 since Janua... (show quote)

Hey buddy please don't let that criticism get to you. I know that there is a lot to learn however that camera is the best 'Bang for the buck" DSLR Nikon that you could've bought. I'm here to tell you that I'm on my third D7200 and am putting a link to a website that will help you get a few things setup like back button focus (a must have change).

https://ditchauto.com/top-5-settings-change-nikon-d7200-2/

I'm a sports photographer but in my experience any camera that can shoot in the no-flash and low light that gymnastics photography demands can pretty much take any type of photograph.

The next thing is understanding metering modes and how to setup your camera to get the exposure right.

I don't want you to give up and just remember that practice is how you get to Carnegie Hall...

Hope you find the linked info and moral support helpful and to answer your question: I'm my own worst critic. I wish I was able to work with you to help speed up the learning process...

I've taken a lot of these kind of shots but this is the 1st time I've seen one that shows the torque in the bat as in #1. Good catch!

Guys that bent bat is due to the type of bat she is using not shutter effect. There is a composite bat that bends now and is supposed to be safer. I know I didn't understand what was going on either but after researching it a little that was the explanation I found....

I agree. These are great action shots. No faces necessary. What camera ? Settings ? Lens ? Paul

Thanks for all the comments and you're right I should've put the EXIF data in this post...

Nikon D7200 (love these and have three!), 70-200mm VR, 1/2000 SS, f/2.8, and I used 'cloudy' WB on these until the sun came out then changed it to 'sunny'.

As far as I can tell from my quick and unverified research they say that the bat bending like that may decrease the size of the sweet spot ergo reduce the bat's effectiveness. That said there is a whole dedicated religion or science that proves their favorite bat is the best. The link I used is below if you want to go further down the rabbit hole. Thanks everyone! -Jim

Were these a pick of many single shots, or did you take advantage of 4K photo capture?

I don't use the video features in my Nikon and kinda wish that they would focus on making the camera better because you can't serve two masters well. I think that cell phones shouldn't do anything but make calls that don't drop and that you could understand the other person too but that's just my two cents...

You can see that same effect, albeit very slight, in shots 2 and 4. Must be the shutter effect.

Well I just looked it up and it is bent due to the bat being a Composite BBCOR Bat vs an Aluminum Bat. It seems that the handle actually is designed to bend in Composite bats due to safety considerations.

Cool, set. The first one has an odd (shutter) effect of an apparent bent bat! Or was it due to an extreme WA lens?

Not exactly sure what that's about??? I was kinda hoping that someone might have some insight. I think that the bat might be damaged but I'm open to other opinions.

Good timing getting the ball in frame. Too bad no faces show. You might try moving closer to first or third base for at the plate shots.

I moved to both sides of the plate during this double header and chose to only post these from the 2K+ photos of both teams. I assure you that I can produce them but appreciate the CC...

as you can plainly see I am new here and am needing some advice. I an amateur coin collector and need advice on a camera type and how to get the best results when snapping pics of coins. money is an issue so please bear that in mind. thanks one and all.

As a comic book collector I have had the exact same questions and found these items work well for taking excellent photos of comic book covers:

1) photographic copy table (the one I use has two static lights as well as an adjustable arm to mount the DSLR camera on)
https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=photographic+copy+table&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

2) I used a Nikon D3200 with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1433064-REG/nikon_1590_d3500_dslr_camera_with.html

3) This is not a macro lens. What that means is that the minimum focus distance is approx. 10" from the sensor to the coin/subject. If its not then you won't be able to focus.

You'll want to learn how to set the white balance as well so your colors won't be off and if you shoot jpgs you can have the camera auto-correct for barrel distortion.

So for around $500-550 brand new you can get setup however you can find these items used for much less. If you don't know what to check on used equipment it might be worth it to buy a new camera.

Here's an example of what I could do with mine after learning my equipment so I could "get it right in the camera".

Here's a coin I took with that setup as well...

Hope that this helps...
