This is the best site I know on how to get good information on lenses. I spent many hours on it yesterday to help me determine the best lenses for a D810 I hope to buy. It really saved me from making some bad decisions! You pick the lenses you want to see data on. It will compare 3 at a time and you can also tell it to test them on a specific camera. Very cool. You don't even have to know the lens name, it will list most of the lenses made by most manufacturers. So if you are looking for a wide angle zoom, you just go down the list until you see the zooms you're interested and select them. Be sure to check out Tamron and Sigma. I was shocked to see that, for instance, that the Sigma 24mm f1.4 lens beat out the similar nikon lenses. Same for a 70-200 zoom...Tamron reigned King. Good luck.
Crop A is so much more interesting to me. I'd hang that one on my wall. Nicely done.
I agree. Nikon makes good products. There's sure a lot of negativity on this site at times. Ugh.
If I go round, I'll need a 72mm. My thought was to save the big stopper when I need a much longer exposure and use the 3 or 6 stopper for those shorter exposures and perhaps it would be less time consuming and I would use them more. Love the shots I get with Lee but hate the setup time.
I have to confess I just sold my graduated filter set...again, so much work to use them...but am having a bit of seller's remorse because they do help solve the problem of evening out the exposures between sky and land.
The breakthrough brand is easier to set up than Lee? Wasn't sure if that is what you meant. I'll see if I can find something on utube that demonstrates it. That is my biggest complaint about the Lee system. And found a fantastic comparison sight that explains why my Lee Big stopper is sooo blue. If I go round, I plan on trying the Breakthrough brand. I guess I'm just getting lazy in my old age and want something that doesn't take so long to set up. Thanks for the input
Hi, I am a new member and am learning so much from this forum! Now, I want to improve my long exposure skills. I own the square Lee mounting system and have a Big Stopper (10 stops). I am planning on getting a 6 stop next. It is a lot of work to set up the camera with the Lee system and I am now wondering if just using a normal round filter is a better way to go. Any thoughts on this?
I just assumed that when I see these tack sharp photos taken with FX sensors that the sensor is a major reason they are so sharp compared to what I get with my D300s. I know technique and glass quality plays a role as well. I just am so dissatisfied with the results I get compared to what I see on sites like 500px, etc...but I certainly don't want to sink the money into an FX if there isn't going to be a major difference in detail and sharpness. I guess I should rent one first...
I thought one of the biggest benefits to a full-frame sensor is its ability to capture more dynamic range. Is that not true...anyone know?
