If the monitor characteristics were not changed between viewing the results of each camera, it doesn't matter if it is calibrated or not.
The monitor display is a constant in either case. It depends on what is sent to the monitor how it is displayed, i.e. the contents of the image file.

"Calibrated Monitor" is just one of various mantras chanted by the adherents of UHH Sacred Traditions. As with most pink noise, you must adjust to ignoring it, cuz it never really goes away.

Your definition of art is way too rigid. Of course "contracted photography" can produce art! If commissioned paintings can't be considered art the world's art collection would be a lot smaller.

The word "Art" is in the thread title, so this thread is cursed from its very outset by UHH Sacred Tradition as its practiced among The Usual Suspects.

anymore. When I was a kid I had to improvise lots of things to make a toy. A pipe became something like an anti aircraft gun.

Your project is doubley doomed, by both the infrastructure on hand and the attitude of the practitioner in charge. That is all.

I use hyper focal when I don't use the one third in rule. Now I wonder if it is good. It's always been good for me. Maybe it's only close.

Dont worry that "maybe its only close".
"Only close" is what DoF is all about.

Its about whats good enuf on either side of perfect. Despite formulae and CoC standards, "good enuf" is a subjective case-by-case call, and therefor a variable.

I started photography by taking what looked like interesting artistic photos in film.

Then I became a wedding and portrait PHOTOGRAPHER in film. Here my work started to blur into art. People never liked their photos and always wanted to look better so I had to arrange light conditions which avoided any stark looks.

After about 6 years as a wedding/portrait PHOTOGRAPHER, I was essentially burned out, and only took travel photos and photos of the kids, returning to being just a photographer.

With the advent of digital, and then increasingly complex digital editing, my photography became PHOTOGRAPHY again. And now, people look at my photos and the first thing they say after “Oh WOW!” is, “Nice Painting....Oh wait, that’s a photograph.... I wonder how he did that."

I have moved into ART. My photographs are the way I want to see the subject, not necessarily the way it is in fact. Mirrorless, focus merge, and extensive digital editing allow me to do this. And, in my mind, I became a PHOTOGRAPHER once again.

At first glance I cringed at your thread title, but on reading the post I now feel waaaaay sympatico. Ben Dare & Don Dat ;-)

Going to visit Martha's Vineyard. I am taking my small Canon 50mkll. Lens question, take the canon 50mm 1.8 lens with adapter for everywhere, everything? Or a wide angle, or a 18-150?
Thank for your help.

Insufficient budget and gear for great quality.

A home made light box and a close up dioptre lens could get you results suitable for smallish prints with the aid of some sharpening in PP.

Naming whatever brand swelled up does NOT "do everyone here a favor". Its meaningless. Fact is, schidt happens.

The only batteries I ever had swell up are the OEMs. My many Wasabies have never done it. But should I then "do everyone here a favor" and warn you all against OEM batteries ?!?

UHH has battery threads on a regular basis, heavily populated by phony experts, camera brand fanbois, and ignorant paranoids.

Markwilliam1 does not know how to write a reply that includes a quote.

That seems on-topic.

What does a camera have to have to be considered
one of the miraculous mirrorless ones CANON and others rave about? There are plenty of mirrorless digital cameras. My Lumix DMC FZ 1000 is mirrorless, so is my RX100 vii along with my Nikon A1000 but they are obviously not the ones the mirrorless crowd is all gaga about.

Its not so hard to figger out. You are already halfway there in knowing that those are NOT the ones. Then just consider their opposites, and the veil will be lifted.

Uh huh.

It "GREATLY" depends on ones definition.
