I don't know how old or young you two are but you are acting like babies that had their bottles taken away. It needs to stop. Think of something positive.

I shot with my Nikon d60 and the smaller lens. I was probably 4' away from each shot. The male I tried to photograph was 3 feet away. When he shook his rattles I knew to move away.

I apologize for posting pictures that I was excited to be able to take and thought others would enjoy them as much as I do. Not once did I say that I like any type of snake but I do have an ultimate respect for them. I grew up on deer meet, ground hog, squirrel, and rabbit, but my mother knew how to cook and serve wild meats. I don't so don't eat them or much meat. If need be, I will pull the pictures to keep the comments civil.

Copperheads are a different story. I know for a fact, they will chase you. My mother and older sister was chased by one while I stood in the back of the truck laughing at how fast they could run and how fast the snake could move. Thanks goodness, it gave up the chase. But that is a picture, I will always remember and it has been many years ago.

Snake Hill looking down on Cheat Lake near Morgantown, WV. I visited each day and met a total of 8 sunning themselves. They are beautiful. Thanks!

Hey guys, i didn't mean to stir up negative remarks. I wanted to share pictures that I was able to take and show how beautiful they are. They will not bother us unless we step on them, antagonize them, or wish to harm them. I was more into sharing educational info about these creatures.

They do get to be a nice size and huge around the middle. That is why they are slow movers and don't bite just to bite.

I just wish people would educate themselves more. Guns, pistols, and knives do more harm than good.

I think there is a place for every creature even ignorant people who don't take the time to educate themselves to nature and the environment.

Actually where we live is called Snake Hill. There was a local attorney that kept rattlers to milk and sell the venom to West Virginia University Medical Center. He would come on Saturdays to milk them with the help of an assistant. The area is 14 miles from Morgantown and no phone. A snake had escaped from its cage and while he was looking for it, it nailed him. His assistant couldn't help that day and when he found him the next week, he was dead. The dam that he built is still there and this information can be found by doing research.

These are in West Virginia called timber rattlers. There was a male that camouflaged with the grass and weeds where the females were sunbathing. I started to get a picture of him but he warned me to keep my distance and because of the weeds his picture is still with him. He was more golden or sandy brown along with a sand colored head.
