Seems like I read once that the Flat Earth Society is headquartered in the UK. From what I know of the British sense of humor, I wonder if the whole thing is just a big joke.

If you can't easily fit a piece of plywood in it it isn't really a truck

My dad's definition of a real truck was something with a full free floating rear axle, sounds reasonable. And by that definition, the F150, the most popular "truck" on the road would not be a truck.

Pickups have gotten bigger but have been transformed into a "white collar" vehicle now used as the family car or commuting vehicle. People who tend to be aggressive and inconsiderate on the road particularly like these big pickups because they're even more intimidating than a SUV.

As others noted, they're now 4-door vehicles with shortened beds that can't even accommodate a sheet of plywood or more than 6 bales of hay and their only utility use, is to trailer a 26-foot Bayliner to the marina in the spring.

Eight foot beds are still available, with or without extended cab. Of course the longer the vehicle the less agile and harder to park it is so users have to pick what they want.

Looks to me that the bed of the truck has a cover on it. I bet the board wouldn't lay flat in the bed. I have had a few p/u's over the years but never had a cover for the beds. Don't know what you do with the cover if whatever is in the bed is too big for the cover.

Such covers can be easily opened to allow cargo. The cargo can even poke out to the legal limit, four feet of overhang is allowed at least in most states.

Chances are that the board, if put into the truck's bed, would have extended too far beyond the tail, and needed a red flag on it, which was not available.
Or, the balance point was beyond the tailgate, and would need someone back there to hold it in place.
Or, sumboddy's reel dumm!

At least in most states, you are allowed four feet overhang past the tailgate before you need a red flag. That board looks like it would not violate that law, nor would there be a balance point issue. Could be that the bed is full of other stuff.

I honestly don't know. There was a Navajo working but I don't know about ownership. I believe trading posts were always owned by white people in the old days but I don't know about now. I would think now days the opposite would be true. I would hope so.

I don't know now, but when my uncle was involved, neither he nor his partner were Navajo.

Sorry to here about your uncle. I'm glad they brought back some memories. There are the remnants of an old paddle boat off to the side. I'd love to hear the story behind that.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the paddle boat, I doubt my uncle had anything to do with that. Certainly nobody was going to use it near that trading post.

Thanks for posting those images. Long ago, my uncle used to be half-owner of that trading post and I visited there a few times. Sadly, he got in the way of a drunk driver a bit ago and is no longer with us.

Very true, we tend to refer to it as the 4th of July consequently forgetting its true historical significance as Independence Day. It just happens to be my birthday as well.

Happy birthday! Don't eat any more cake and ice cream than I would (not a very severe restriction).

Thanks, great image. However, I have to ask why we call it the Forth of July? Why not the real name: Independence Day. We don't call Christmas the 25th of December, we don't call New Years Day the first of January. This is the only holiday I can think of called by date instead of its official name. That sucks the meaning out of the holiday. It is supposed to celebrate our independence and pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much to give us our freedom.

Early mornings now, especially Thursday morning, is a rare opportunity to see and photograph five planets and the moon, appearing in a straight line and close together.

There is a good rule that is almost 100% correct: If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Applies in all areas of life.

It's what's called a teardown in the real estate business. You're buying the house to get the land.

So somebody will probably build a McMansion there. But it is close to the beach and subject to high water in case of storms so they will want federally subsidized insurance on the place. If someone is foolish enough to build in a dangerous area, that is his right but he should not demand my tax money to subsidize his foolishness.

Don't forget to check your camera's time setting, as well as what ever other clocks you have that don't reset automatically. It's also a good time to go through your camera's menu to see if all the settings are still as you want them.

The would be sleeper said, "well heck,"
this blanket will not reach my neck.

Unless I want to go quite mad
a short extension I must add.

I need material to sew.
I know! I’ll take some from the toe.”

And so he cut and sewed it on
to make that blanket extra long.

But then said he, “Well, I’ll be beat
for now it will not reach my feet.”

A silly tale, what’s that you say?
Like nothing that we do today?

Well think my friend of daylight time
which does the same with clocks that chime.

So sleepy drivers, cars they crash
causing them their teeth to gnash.

Then sleepy workers, bosses too
make big mistakes which they then rue.

In sleepy schools it must be fun
it sounds like snoring, 101.

And now the sleep that people lack
can also cause a heart attack!

Is it coincidence that this change rules
So near the time of April fools?
