You know that Security Security is socialist, right? Republicans fought against that too in the '30's during a time of disintegrating families, little economic (cash) activity, and the destruction of rural life by natural forces. Let's let Grandpa starve, it's his own fault for not being rich. My business owner grandfather h**ed Roosevelt. Seems hard-hearted now, doesn't it?
Is it government intrusion or are we the government that is working to improve society? It is not a slippery slope. It's a battle between forces wanting to use government to prop up society, and forces wanting people to stand alone, to rise and fall on their own.
You like your Medicare? Socialist. You like having the largest military on Earth, ever? Socialist. You like not seeing starving people begging on the streets of your town or breaking into your house to steal food? Food stamps are socialist. You veterans like your VA benefits? Socialist. You like community colleges teaching photography courses? Socialist. If you don't like to see the homeless wandering on the streets, then let government be the organizer that coordinates the improvements rather than just throwing out cranky, disparaging names that add nothing, and signify less.
An attack on government is an attack on democracy. Because we are the government. Stop sowing discord and effect what you want through action. Or are you Russian?

The wide format was a Fuji in the 18-70mm range (sorry, I'm not near the camera), and it was lightweight. With an 18mm I could capture the breadth of a plaza and its contents, or the width of a cathedral rather than a shot of one thing like an alter or a statue. That is how you see things and wide-format shots will help you remember what you saw. An 18mm--120mm would have been better for more composition choices. The telephoto was a Fuji 70mm-200mm or so, was tiresome to carry even in a backpack while on the move, was used only with scenery like from a boat or while driving, and there was haze.
You can carry weighty stuff and make the trip about the camera, or you can enjoy the food, people and places and take lots of snaps of the stuff you saw. There is so much interesting to see that framing a shot became my main interest. There were only 3 scenes during the entire several weeks that I wanted to revisit and take time with. Also HDR was important for cathedrals. And if you get to Gaudi's cathedral in Barcelona, take video. Your people will not believe the light. Also go out in the cities just as they are waking up: empty streets will let the 12th century buildings come through. Otherwise you'll have lots of shots of the back of tourist's heads.

I recently returned from 7 weeks in Southern Europe travelling with a used Fujifilm X-series mirrorless which I bought used on Ebay purposely for travelling since I have owned a D7100 and now have a D750 and know what it's like to have the enjoyment of travel disrupted by that continuous lead weight hanging on your body. Probably 70% of my photos (2000 in all--300 viewable) were taken with a wide-angle zoom (plazas, buildings, streets, church interiors), 20% telephoto (buildings in the distance), and 10% with a 50mm prime for art and objects in museums. I used an adapter to marry the Nikon prime to the Fuji. No flash was required for any shot.
I found a strap system that is worn across your body rather than around your neck is necessary to relieve stress on your neck. I carried the camera and the extra lens for the day (as well as water and snacks) in a canvas bag that was worn across my chest and hung at my hip. I cushioned the camera body in the bag with one of those blowup neck cushions used on airlines. By the 5th week I was tired of carrying the camera around all day but I imagine if I had taken a heavier camera I would have carried it all day maybe 1 of every 3 days. The temperature in Southern Europe was just 70 degrees F in May. Can't imagine what it would be like carrying a D750 and a big lens in 90 degrees all day for a few weeks surrounded by tourists, pickpockets, and thieves. (tourists being the worst :).
BTW Nikon users: change-out the strap with the big yellow "Nikons" printed along it. You might as well tape a couple of thousand dollar bills to your back.

What kind of "market" would you call an Ebay seller who, when you order a used camera from a US buyer, overnights camera bodies (Fuji in my case) from a Tokyo camera store, marks it up, and sends it on to you sight unseen? Invoice was left in box.

Who's going to buy our debt (treasury bonds) if China doesn't. The Repubs just gave themselves a tax reduction (ie: our children's future) without reducing spending, and the cash has to come from somewhere. The choice is to sell debt or print money (which is inflationary--ask South America).

Piss the Chinese off and they don't buy our bonds, then interest rates go up so the bonds will attract more buyers. And then you will pay more when you buy a car or home just as you are going to pay more when tariffs on Chinese goods are put in place. We buy Chinese goods to give the Chinese cash to buy our bonds since we always overspend our income. We lose our industries (jobs) but get to maintain our "big American" lifestyle even though we know inside that it's all looking cheaper and thinner. And we feel it's necessary to put our cash into a military to overwhelm the rest of the world. Maybe we should change 20 years and out to 30 or 40 years and out like us civilians. But then who would buy these expensive cameras during the last 40 to 50 years of their retirement?

How does it end? It doesn't end. It goes on. With either wars or cooperation.

T***p w*n't lose, ever. He's rich. But we all love a winner. Too bad we're all in this together. But someone has to lose; most likely it's you.

Great photos. It's good to compare Tom Mix and Hopalong Cassidy to the people behind the image.

Regarding the comment on the earthquake photo about building houses on top of earthquake faults as fast as lumber can be delivered: Just today the "LA Times" published an explanatory article and link to a map portraying every parcel in the State of California and the type of ground beneath it (near fault zone, liquefaction zone, landslide zone etc.). www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs.

Draw your own conclusions as to whether this map is an example of government intrusion or government fore-warning and thus fore-arming it's residents.

Will your parcel in Miami will be underwater in 20 years? Or does the problem not exist, as says your Governor. Everglades vs Big Sugar? Who's on top?

It all started here with the Smog in the '50s. You just couldn't breathe.

It's all quite simple. The FBI investigates. They draw conclusions from the facts. Conclusions are released. Our Great Leader Oink-Oink does not like conclusions since they infer that his life-long incessant perfidy is what it is. Great Leader Oink-Oink undermines messenger by pointing finger at any BS that is 1% plausible in any one of 50 alternate universes. True Believers eat BS, pronounces it delicious and the FBI corrupted. Confused and disheartened, having been taught to respect the Office of the President, we see how the Great Divider reigns, and wait for tomorrow when new chaos descends once again from the mouth of Great Leader Oink-Oink................
Are you disgusted yet? How about now?

BTW.. Are there photographers in Russia?

Purchased a refurbed D750 body from Nikon last month. It came with the caps, hood, and no bag or manual in a white box. Count was close to zero. Looked great--all shiny and clean. I figured it would be an easier sell in a couple of years to say it was purchased refurbished from Nikon. Which cost me a couple of hundred extra over ebay or the used eqpt stores.

Remember Freedom of Religion? It's a founding principle of our country. It's one of the reasons why our ancestors left the old world.

If you're worried about dying, don't drive a car, and don't be around guns, and don't spread unreasonable Fear and Hatred. Peas by with you.
