Since I installed the two feature updates on Windows 10, usb drives (cards and flash drives) are not recognized at all. They do not show up in File Explorer or Disc Management. Does anyone know how to uninstall the updates (not listed as security updates), or fix the issue another way? I need to download my photos and can't unless the issue is resolved. There is another thread discussing the updates but I don't think that issue has been covered.Thank you in advance.

You might want to take a look at the Feisol CT-3442. It's only 2.3 lbs, has a top tube diameter of 28 mm and a load capacity of 55 lbs, not that the load capacity really means anything. It costs $420. I have used it successfully with a 300mm lens and for macro work. It's like a Gitzo series 2 in weight, but it's top tube is thicker making it more stable.

I have this tripod and it is both light and stable. I use it for birding with a 300 mm lens and TC that weighs about 4 lbs. I agree with Gene51.

Thanks for that. I had heard several complaints that the 28-300 wasn’t as sharp as they expected it would be. I bought the 70-300 (but not the “P” version) for that very reason, that a shorter zoom range would mean a sharper lens, overall. Plus it was about half the price.

I bought the AF-P 70-300 because it was supposed to be sharp at the long end, and I wasn't disappointed. I use mine for birding, butterflies and wildlife in general. It's also wide enough for landscape or snapshots in many instances. I will post some Mourning Doves for your inspection.

I would be interested for opinions of performance of the newest FF Nikon 70-300mm afp lens on the crop sensor Nikon D7200, after upgrading to the newest firmware. I am not interested in the crop dx versions of this lens for several reasons. I prefer the faster F/5.6 at 300mm, the metal mount, the ability to turn off VR, and ability on a FF camera. Has anyone in a pinch used it with a Kenko 1.4 teleconverter? I am most interested in performance at 300mm on the crop body.

As background, I am struggling to put together a very small kit for two weeks in Namibia. The cameras will be a D750 and a D7200. My Tamron 150-600mm G2 is proving too large, I fear (though I like this lens very much). Other lenses available: 24mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 28-300mm, 18-140mm, 24-85mm. I will not take all five of these other lenses, only some subset. Others on the trip will have super zooms like a Nikon B700, and 1 inch sensor compacts.

My space will be limited to about a Domke f2 bag.

I have looked at Sony RX 10 IV etc, and they are not for me. For that money, I might look at a 300mm f/4 prime on the crop, 28-300 on the FF. But the zoom, if solid, seems more practical, and less expense.

Observations on Namibia welcome.

For this potential purchase, I am only considering Nikon. If pushed, I have a 300mm f/4.5 from film days--no vr, manual, but looks pretty good--no purchase required. I could easily pack my film kit--sigh . . .
I would be interested for opinions of performance ... (show quote)

I have the D750, the AF-P 70-300 mm lens, and the Kenko 1.4x Teleconverter. I installed the firmware upgrade and have no problems with AF or anything else. I think it is a wonderful lens. The Kenko 1.4x TC has trouble focusing but when it finally does it produces very good IQ.

Great shots of that Red-bellied Woodpecker! The second one is a female; all the other shots are a male.

I don't know there is a Nikon AF-P 100-300mm lens on the market, May be you meant the 70-300AF-P VR f4.5-f6.3 DX? It's a DX(crop) lens, your D750 is a FX (full frame) camera. I don't know how good the image come out from this lens with any tele-converter!

My error. It is the FF Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR f/34-8. Thanks for pointing that out. He can read reviews and see if anyone has had success on their DX camera.

I have been looking at extenders, and from what I have seen so far, it is not available for DX format cameras such as my D5500. Is there a 2X extender that will fit the D5500 and the 55-300 AF-S combination? I looked at the: Nikon Teleconverter TC-17E II AF-S Lens in the 1.7X. Either 1.7 or 2.0 would work for me.

Hi SpyderJan, if you want to play around with a TC, take a look at:

https://www.amazon.com/Kenko-1-4X-Teleconverter-Nikon-Digital/dp/B002C6QE00/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521647977&sr=1-1&keywords=kenko+1.4x+pro+300+teleconverter&dpID=41bTGnB3NJL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

The Kenko should work on your lens. I bought this one for a AF-P Nikon 100-300mm and it works fine. My lens is sharp at the long end to begin with and I don't see appreciable decrease in IQ using it. I do lose a stop in aperture but doesn't make that much difference on bright days, for birding for example. I think that someone mentioned that AF doesn't work on your camera; I'm not sure about that but AF works on my D750. It currently lists for $203 on Amazon but I found a new one there a few months ago for $135. Check around for a better price.

The Kenko 1.4X PRO 300 Teleconverter DGX is compatible with AF-P lenses. I have the lens and the TC, and it's IQ performance is very good. AF is slow at times. Seems to be a connector problem; I may have a faulty one. Am working with Kenko.

I agree. Especially sharp at the long end!

There are two 70-300 mm AF-P lenses. One is DX and one is FF- the faster one is FF and about 750.00 and is excellent.

What you guys think about Nikon Nikkor lens 70-300 f4.5 -5.6 Vr / VS Tamron 70-300 F4.- 5.6 Vc, which would you choose regardless of the name is where i'm going ? 🤔 And Thanks Guys!

You are probably referring to the Nikon AF-S lens. If you want a Nikon lens that is sharp at the long end then I would suggest looking at the AF-P 70-300, a newer lens introduced recently. Also sharp across the entire range, it is more expensive than the AF-S 70-300. I have the lens with which I am extremely pleased.

Likely a 1.4. On a crop camera with tele converter it will be around an equiv 650mm. That is long enough to get many birds at rest and some in flight. The longer the lens the harder it is to get a good, clean shot. Is it perfect? No, it's a tradeoff.

PS- the Nikon AF-P 300 mm f4 is not an entry level lens.

It should be noted that the Nikon teleconverter will not work on the AF-P 70-300 mm lens. You would have to go with a third party TC. I have the lens and the Kenko 1.4x TC that will will work on that lens. Also the 70-300 weighs 1.5 pounds compared to about 4 lbs for the Tamron.

I have a vest and rarely use it. It is hot unloaded and heavy and hot when loaded, not to mention geeky looking. All that you need to complete the picture is shorts with black shoes and long knee socks :) I would opt for a belt with pouches or a waist pack from Think Tank. Some of the other waist packs tend to be too shallow.

I agree. Another line of products you might consider instead of a vest is Lowepro. The packs are designed to fit the belt. I especially like the pouch for changing a lens with one hand. AND, you don't need the shorts, black shoes and long knee socks. LOL

I am an amateur photographer and am debating between a Nikon AF-P, 70-300 mm and a Nikon AF S FX 28-300 mm lens. I own a Nikon D 750 camera.
Thank you for your input

I use a D750 and the new Nikon AF-P 70-300 mm and I think it is a great lens. At the long end the lens is pretty comparable to my Nikon 300 mm f/4 prime lens which I use for birding. You could also look at the Kenko 1.4X PRO 300 Teleconverter DGX ($135) to increase the long end to 420 mm. The Nikon TCs do not work on this lens. I really don't see as much degradation of IQ as others say they see using the TC.

I guess I phrased the question poorly. I'm really interested in how the Nikon face-detection or face-priority feature works and and how to use it. I have a D750, and last Christmas when I used the feature I thought it automatically focused on the nearest face before the shot. Guess I must have been dreaming!
