"Sometimes the drivers find a way to outsmart the authorities."

"I always thought it would be funny to have a license plate that read, "11111111." Imagine a cop trying to read that and get it right. I assumed it would not be allowed, but one day I saw such a plate."

There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Which road was it? In the middle photo, were you looking SE? From the shadow length and angle (and the clouds) it looks like early afternoon looking that direction. Ouray is my favorite town in she San Juans. Anyway, great images. I'll be there mid August.

Download a free app called Photopills at http://www.photopills.com/ This app is terrific for planning landscape shoots down to the minute and will show the exact location of your photo landmark with the precise azimuth that the sun will rise and set superimposed on google earth like map, for the precise calendar day, along with lots of other useful tools like hyperfocal tables and timelapse calculators. It's really terrific for planning your stops as efficiently as you can.

Some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 are in the Big Bend area from the Rio Grande north to Marathon. The only reason Big Bend is not visited more is because it is so remote, but that's also the reason it's so enjoyable. Anytime other than the spring break period is a good time to visit, and there are great astrophotography sites all over. The winters are mild with only a rare dusting of snow in the higher Chisos Basin, over 7800 feet. Like was mentioned earlier, Fort Davis and McDonald Observatory are only a short drive (by Texas standards) away. It's one of my favorite areas in the country.

Gary, whatever you decide on, new or cleaning your current PC, it is very important to back up your photos. You can get a 500g portable drive that's about the size of a deck of cards for about $50, or 1 Terabyte drive for about $70. Great in case your PC ever does go belly up.
