Read this thread early today then went to dentist. July 27 Time Mag in waiting room had a bit about selfless in 1940's. Seems a photog named Gjon Mili invited celebrities to take self portraits in his studio using a remote controller for the shutter. Some of these portraits can be seen at life.time.com Not so different from selfles of today.
As for kids taking pictures relentlessly, may of the young people I see are using these as, or as part of, a diary. This seems to help them fasten the images in their minds and to process what they are experiencing to better understand life. IMO It isn't all bad.

Wonderful!!! Congratulations, hope you have many more clicks in your shutter count.
Your note stirs a lot of memories, including the potent smell of a hot flashbulb and the need for speed in removing those hot bulbs when they hung up.

Thanks for starting this thread.

Thank you, Greg. And Thanks to all of you who have served, serve now or support those who serve or served. I was drafted while in college in 1952 and decided to forgo deferment. That was an easy decision to make because the national spirit of WWII was still an influence. Sorry to see that North Korea is still causing problems.
Last April I was invited to go on a Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington,DC The program is sponsored by Gold Star Mothers Chapters. I hope all of you veterans get that opportunity. It is an amazing experience. Nothing can compare to being at the Memorials, the National Mall and Arlington with a group of veterans. Our group filled an Airbus 320.
Each veteran was accompanied by a volunteer guardian. That would be an excellent way for you, Greg, and others like you to participate in an Honor Flight and share that deeply moving experience.

Thanks for starting this thread and thank you to Erich Brunner for his recent pictures, they stirred some wonderful memories - as great pictures tend to do.
Was in the 348 Ordnance Ballistics & Technical Service Detachment in Illesheim, 1953-54. Our small group provided technical services for artillery units. Illesheim is between Wurzburg, Ansbach and Rothenburg, not far from Nuremburg. The beauty there caused me to buy my first 35mm film cam, a Voightlander Vito II.
Still have that little folding marvel and have been digitizing my color slides. Went digital with Konika Minolta, have a P900 on order.
I do enjoy UHH. Great resource. Regards to all of you.

Wunderbar!!! Was stationed near there in early 50's. Your pictures take me back there nicely. At the time it was possible to shout up to a woman who lived in the Windsheim Rathaus tower and she would throw down a huge iron key. That opened the door at the foot of the tower and we could climb the stairs to the top. From there we could see the red rooftops of the entire town. You pictures are outstanding. Thank you for sharing them.
