Welcome. I guess there are a few of us from RI in the Forum. I'm in Johnston.
Most of my education for my Nikon's have come from youtube videos.
Do a search on your camera and you'll find a whole bunch.
I can't read manuals, but a good video where I can see what's going on, always works for me. Good luck getting snow photos today.

I'm going to be sharing the same boredom of what to do in the middle of a blizzard. There will be a lot of snow blowing (that's me clearing the snow, not the wind from the snowstorm), so anything that will cause the use of whatever energy is left, is not up for consideration. I envy your plans bdk, but my free time is going to shooting the blizzard. Hopefully I'll figure out what to set the camera at to get the best snow photos possible. Did I include the phrase "my aching body" yet in my post?

I made a similar, but lower costing move a few months ago. I went from the D3200 to a used D7000. I am happy with the move for a couple of reasons. I enjoy having 2 SD cards in the camera (on important shots I will usually do a .jpg and .raw version). But at the time I only had a few lenses and none of them were good in low-light situations. With the D7000 having its own focus motor I have been able to buy used AF versions of the lenses at a far cheaper price than the AF-S. The $400 I paid for the D7000 has saved me multiples of that on AF lenses. I also see an improvement in using a higher ISO setting than the D3200. Go for it!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

For those of you looking to take photos of snow falling, please feel free to visit RI today, tomorrow or Wednesday. Current forecast is 20" to 30". That's a lot of flakes for me to practice with.

Hi to all:
I have been bitten by the photography bug for a year now. Started out with a Nikon D3200 with 2 kit lenses and I have since upgraded to a used Nikon D7000.
I have accumulated a pretty extensive collection of lenses. Just about all of these lenses were purchased on eBay with a very patient approach in limiting my purchase price to where I feel I would be getting a great deal.
My favorite lenses are a Nikkor 85mm F1.8 AF and a Nikkor 105mm F2.8 AF.
I love taking photos of landscapes and sports, especially baseball, basketball and football. My Nikkor 80-200 F2.8 AF is my best friend for these shots.
My camera is with me just about every day, and have gotten most of my special photos because I just happened to have my camera.
Had a brief experience with a film camera about 30+ years ago! but didn't care for the cost to have bad photos developed and having to wait almost a week to see results.
The new DSLR's gives me the instant results I love and the cost is minimized by only printing the special photos.
