Hi! Last weekend I took pictures of this little girl in her Halloween costume with their family horse. I could edit out the yellow rope out of the original picture but it still seemed like it was missing something. I tried to add some sun rays but just not to thrilled about it. Would anyone have any other suggestions I could do with this picture to make it stand out more? Thanks everyone!! :)

These are so darned cute! I really like them all. Jaime gave good advice, I have nothing to add to that, though I like the background in #2 just as it is.

Does that milking stool have a little handle on it? If so, I have an identical one. It was my Grandmother's. She was born in 1900. It is still in great shape. I use it for something almost every day.

I'm not sure this one ever had a hand on it. It was passed on to me from my husband's grandmother. I love it, I use it almost every time when I'm taking pictures of young kids. :)

Really wonderful captures. It looks like you certainly have a way with kids... and cuteness doesn't hurt!!

Technically, I would get them as far away from the background as possible, shoot at low aperture (2.8/4/5.6) to blur the background just a little bit more and make those adorable subjects pop. The white background on the second photo seems underlit. The shoot on white rule of thumb is that the white background should be a stop to a stop and a half hotter than your subject. Subject f5.6... background f8. Subject f11... backdrop f16

Other than that, you have tackled the difficult part, getting kids to stand still and STILL look like they're having fun. Great work!
Really wonderful captures. It looks like you cert... (show quote)

Thank you so much for the advice, it will defenaltey give me a few things to try when experimenting. :)

Do you know of a way to do the bubbling, smokey, effects through a photo editing software?

Hi, Normally I like to take outdoor family shots but with the changing weather and people requesting studio shots I'm trying to figure out how to make them look the best.

One thing I hate about studio shots is the eyes. A lot of times in pictures you get the dull eyes with the bright circle from the flash. However when you do outside shots you get the pretty sparkling eyes, especially in kids.

So, I'm trying to combine the two, get the sparkling eyes in studio shots. A lot of times I do these outside but with the weather getting cooler it's not always possibly so I'm expementing with reflectors and using rooms with big windows. What I'm getting is sensitivity to movement, and uneven light. :\ I posted a few and was hoping you can let me know what you guys see. Critism is greatly appreciated and well as pointers as with it we learn. :)

thanks, I'll try darkening them. I love kids eyes in natural light and this was an attempt to do studio shots in a room with lots of natural light instead of using studio lights. But the light is uneven still, still practicing. :)

well since steam is transparent the background will be different. Even if I take the steam and do a transparency on the image selection until you can't see the background of the stove, it'll be so faint you can't see it.

Hi! I absolutely love taking Halloween pictures. It's so much fun to play with the kids and get them to play the part as their character that they are dressed as. :) Here is a little girl that was dressed as a witch. She was so cute and very photogenic. She had fun acting like she was flying on her broom, making potions, and casting spells. :) I was hoping with the one with the cauldron to make it look like it's a bubbling potion but I haven't had much luck with it. So far everything I've tried looks like a green blur or scribbles. I was wanting to know would anyone have any suggestions I could try? Thanks!!!

I agree, that fix is as close as you can get without actually being there.
