I am having a bit of difficulty in understanding how a post admonishing the OP for using caps is of any more value than a negative attack on the OPs intellect. If the former is reprehensible, the latter is even more so. Civility, thy name is history.

I hope this was not directed at my post. However, I can see why it might apply. I sincerely apologize if my post may have appeared to imply this. My intent was to say that people have different ways of expressing there thoughts and we should not blame there method and need to listen to what they are saying. I further apologize for having helped move the conversation off the original attempted concept. Thanks for helping to see that. I forgot my first rule is to mind my own business. Have a great day :)

just because a person uses all caps does not really mean they are yelling at you. sometimes it's just a personal preference, sometimes they really aren't skilled at typing and only use two fingers to peck and paw there letters. maybe it's they learned to navigate with a mouse and auto correct mostly fixes everything. i understand they are going to stop teaching cursive. will that mean that we will no longer have a signature? i am using no caps, cause i don't want to incur your wrath. i am not trying to yell at you. just trying to splain it best i can. i only hope none of this has a negative consequence on my photography. anyway, enjoy the day. try to stay calm.

Everybody - thanks for you thoughts - For the record I began my hobby over 65 years ago. I did my own black and white processing, enlarging etc. Worked on High school and college newspapers and yearbooks. Somewhere along the line I was taught that what I see through the viewfinder is what I print. If I want a different atmosphere then I work with the lighting. other words - I set the picture up before I snap the picture - and what I get I print - other than adjusting contrast or lightening or darkening the picture.
then in the early 80's I entered some exhibitions and had several rejected because of "extensive manipulation" of which I never even thought of doing. Today I see programs that alter the sky, among other things and completely change the nature of what you are shooting.
Yes the results are pleasing and works of art and can be enjoyed by everyone - but something is being lost. We are losing our skills as photographers.

Me too, I built my first dark room just about 65 years ago. I don't exactly agree with you. You have to understand how the tools work to get the results. The technology has changed but the rules of physics and image capture still apply. I am so very impressed by the new generation of photographers. We can learn a lot from them. Have a great day. Keep shooting :)

When I first started photography as a hobby, the rules for exhibitions were simple - The photo I entered was a picture that was not altered in any fashion. Today with the software available it is possible to "adjust" or enhance any or all of the original exposure. The sky can be changed from clear, blue daylight to a dark and stormy evening.
Items can be added and or subtracted etc etc.
What are the standards for entering a photo in a contest / exhibition when it is not explicitly stated? Are there ethics that govern what we do - or has photography turned into a new art form where anything goes as long as it is pleasing or interesting?
Just something I have been wrestling with and would like some thoughts.

I love this topic, It brings out so much feeling and actually incorporates some thought.
That said, from art school 101:
Art is what is pleasing to the eye.
Photography literal definition, Light Writing.
So I guess Photography as Art would be using light to create something which is pleasing to the eye.
The gear and the materials and method's are the tools you use to create Photo Art.
Right out of camera (ROOC) is a figment to your imagination.
The tools the process, and variability in the former and the latter, is your end result.
Art or not is subjective. So maybe.
Anyway, Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain (LOL) have a nice day :)

playing with some lenses and some effects and filters. spurred by buy the worst micro four thirds lens Olympus ever made. the 17mm f2.8 was like one of the first mft lenses, (never had great ratings). I owned this lens before and it's still just as bad as the 1st one I bought (but a lot cheaper). I am now appreciating that the quirky behavior matches my quirky photography. the second lens is the panasonic 14mm f2.5 which is also not given great raves, however, may be the best kept secret in the mft world. anyway, having some fun. oh... hello everybody :)

this is with the 17mm f2.8

Thanks for stopping and having a look and for sharing your thoughts. This is my favorite TELE :) Initially I shared the opinion of the 2nd photo as my favorite (because it was less cluttered) However, I do find the 1st photo of the TELE emerging from the clutter interesting enough to confuse my decision. Anyway, it was a fun project.
