I never hesitate getting a refurbished lens I want. They are always a great deal, IMO.

Consider the 35mm f1.8G for a DX camera, as well. It is a superb normal lens for a crop frame camera.

The Trevi fountain at night cries out for a wide lens. :)

Personally, I would take a 70-200, and a small fast wide angle - on a DX, say 24mm f2 or so.

Last I looked, Ritz and Wolf had a "common" website, differing only in the headers....

Haven't been to either for a while.

Neat! Here's the uncropped, uncorrected original. Thanks for the tip!

There is a jpeg embedded in the nef file, if you have Instant JPEG From RAW you can pull it out in a second, but that's probably too much trouble.

Not sure I can - the "before" is a Raw .nef. That's why I like DxO - conversion and correction with one click.

D610 with the 24-85mm. About my 15th pic with the cam, Christmas morning 2013.

If you can post the same image before running it through OP9, you should probably get a commission on the sale. :-)

I use it and I love it. Fixes all the lens distortion automatically. A must for ultra-wides, for me.

Is it a Nikon USA lens? Those have 5 year warranties - is your older?

I recently sold a 7 year old one in pristine condition for $300.

In any case, best of luck!

My camera shop estimated $200, and they'd have to send it to Nikon. Of course, they said it could be less, but wouldn't know until they sent it out. Don't know where else to turn, however....

I have been through the zoom phase, and in fact, just ordered a nice 50mm f1.4 Ai-S (manual) Nikkor lens for my FA.

The 50mm "sees" about as our eyes see - that is why it is called normal.

On your camera, tho, it will be more like a 75mm, which should be great for portraits, or candids of individuals.

They are capable of wonderful photographs! Many famous photographers have used only a single normal lens for their work.

Just to try and be complete, for your camera, the equivalent "normal" lens would be a 35mm. Nikon makes a great one - the 35mm F1.8G DX.

Best wishes!

I'm still at a loss why anyone would actually want to use DX lenses on an FX body, other than temporarily. What am I missing?

OK, Jeff. There is obviously something you want to debunk here, have at it!

Otherwise, you're just coming off as a punk. And we prefer civil here.

Thanks,
Dave

LOL!!!!

Film is flat and digital sensors are made up of a series of wells or buckets that collect photons. The processor in the camera converts them to electrons and then images.

Light from lenses designed for film strike the film/sensor plane at an angle, often creating flare and distortion like "ghosting" and fall off around the edges. That is why lenses designed for digital cameras have a different formula and coating that "straightens out" the angle at which they strike the plane.

Can you take pics with them? Sure, if they mount on the camera, but why? If it is best the spend the extra dough for a name brand?

And, Nikon and Canon often both buy technology and componentry from other lens makers. In fact I am aware of several models of Canon and Nikon brand lenses that were actually made by "third party" lens makers.

Facts, not opinions.

Unless, of course, you were a tank driver :)

Yes, the D300/300S is built like a tank, but that's not, IMHO reason enough to choose it over a D7100. The D7100 is simply miles ahead technically, with more focus points, better low light performance, better IQ etc. I'd be more interested in the picture taking ability of the camera than it's built like a tank'ness.
