Tell it to the airlines. Want a ticket? $300. Want a seat? $50. Want to take a suitcase? $45. Want a snack? $8. Want a drink? $10. Want to sit with your wife? $60. You get the picture. Whatever happened to buying a ticket from point A to point B = $300 and that got you a seat, a drink, your luggage, a snack, a movie and you got to sit with your spouse. All included in the price of your ticket from point A to point B. Now if you want to "upgrade" from coach to first class naturally you should expect to pay more because you are asking for "extras" above and beyond the initial offer of just a flight and it's built-in inclusions from one point to another. I'm NOT saying retouching shouldn't warrant additional fees, but only if it goes above and beyond basics such as teeth whitening, stray hairs, color correction, etc. If on the other hand the client wants you to trim 150 pounds, change the color of her eyes, give her a waist, enlarge her breasts… then we're talking custom retouching as requested by the client in which case those "extras" should be charged for. Just my thoughts and how I do it.

As a TV news cameraman/journalist (photojournalist) it is required to shoot with both eyes open at all times. Just part of how to shoot professional video for broadcast. After a very short while it became instinct, and now I automatically shoot stills with both eyes open. Just got used to it I guess.

Can someone explain to me in simple everyday terms exactly what "Camera Superior Position" is? I saw the term used in this section regarding the Gang of 8's displays of images of the homeless men in Las Vegas. In my attempt to follow, for the sake of learning, I thought at first the term was just a common sense term meaning the camera's position would be the lens held higher than the subjects face, but the more I read the more unsure I became of the meaning of Camera Superior Position. I did google the term but could not find anything in the context of it's meaning.

Thanx for any help in clearing this up for me. I do appreciate it.

Just joking with you John because this is an old shoot and because the images were put into micro stock in 2008 and have been licensed thousands of times and appeared all over the world. In fact it was my all time top earning micro stock series for 3 years running and these images now buried deep in the catalogs of these agencies with 15-20 million images still manage to license monthly. While they did not inspire your similar theme I am pretty sure they have inspired a few.

I actually have attempted the same theme with many girls but it really takes the right girl to make it successful

I hadn't seen those images before but I'm sure glad I have had the chance to see them now. They inspire me to try the scenario again, with a little more experience than I had 5 years ago. My images were just so-so, yours are SUPERB!

Sorry John, this shoot is actually from 2008. So where do you think you might have picked up the idea? ;)

Bobby, the idea came to me about 5 years ago when I went to Ahern to rent some equipment for a yard project… while in the store I saw some pink hard hats. I immediately envisioned doing a hot sexy shoot with the pink hard hats so I bought two of them, I then ordered two pink tool belts from Amazon and found some pink handled tools in a tool kit for women at Kmart. A female friend of mine agreed to the idea of posing for the scenario and brought her friend along and we did the shoot. Again, the images didn't come out all that professional but the girls were happy with the images and I printed a poster for them. I still have all the props and might try the setup again, this time with a little more photography knowledge than I had 5 years ago. Now all I have to do is find a model (or two). I do have a model I've shot before that I'm sure will pose for me. Although my photography still isn't great, it IS better than it was back then so it could be fun to try again.

LOVE those shots! I did some similar about 5 years ago but mine didn't come out anywhere near as great as yours did. But then again, you are light years ahead of me. Mine were shot outside in bright sunlight using reflectors and speedlights for fills, and my girls were nowhere near as HOT! I could use some help… from HER of course, nothing needs fixing at my house but I'll gladly break something if she's available!

Thanks John, The HSS hack is not part of the high key workshop I offer. In fact I have never taught it at any workshop. I have already pretty much explained how to do it in this thread it is not difficult you just have to use the correct equipment as not all strobes are compatible with the hack.

I am going to be in good company with this group John, most of these guys in this group are easily as capable of teaching me something new as I am of etching them something. It is going to be a really great couple of days.

Yes, I do realize HSS Hack is NOT part of the High Key workshop… it was just a quick off-topic mention while waiting for the model, you said you'd explain it to me at another time though as we were about to leave the studio right then. I'll just look forward to more detail in the thread when you touch on it down the road. Just something I was interested in learning as I'm always hungry to learn as much as I can, and I can't think of a better teacher.

YES! This HSS Hack is what I was wanting you to explain at our last (High Key) workshop, but unfortunately it was the one that had to be rescheduled, although this question was off topic, I had asked out of curiosity while waiting for the model to show up. Looking forward to reading your post on this once everyone has some samples to put up after their trip here to Vegas.

BTW guys, you will all LOVE working with Megan, if I may say so myself. And be prepared to learn a TON from a real pro! Bobby is unbelievable. He knows this stuff in his sleep.

Thanks again Bobby for all you do for us.

and here lies the reason to learn the High Speed Sync Hack to allow you to use studio heads for HSS work outdoors. 3 Canon Speedlights have a cost of what? $1800 or so? The same thing minus the TTL can be done with a $250 Alienbee

Maybe next week while you guys are here in Vegas it is something we can play with for a bit while we are outside and we can shoot some street portraits at f/1.4 1/8000

Then I will put a thread up explaining how we did it after everyone gets home and we have some fresh samples for it.

Simple bean bag: I simply buy a bag of unpopped popcorn, you know the old fashioned way popcorn was packed before Jiffy Pop came along. This type is still available in a plastic bag. I love the simplicity of using it so well I eventually took an old black T-shirt and cut out some rectangles, folded them in half, sewed the two outer edges together, filled them with popcorn kernels then sewed the top. Very effective bean bags. Mine have lasted me more than 10 years now.

I really like the first one perfect timing and I love the lighting. The second one is very creative and fun.

Just a few I tried to get creative with over the years. Nothing spectacular, but hey, I gave it a shot and the brides and grooms were happy.

WOW!!! You HOGS are a wealth of information! I really do love this site… and all you helpful HedgeHoggers!!! Thanx a bunch! I think I'll end up going with a tethered setup, although I'll have to gaffer down the cable so no one trips over it bringing my camera or Mac to the floor. Oh yeah, I don't want any people crashing to the floor either. That could be messy.
