And as far as semantics go, shallow might be a better term.

To change DOF in post involves the ability to select the subject and blur other things. Technically, I'm not really changing the DOF, I'm just blurring the background (and/or foreground). To simulate DOF I would have to do this selectively to blur things further behind the subject more, but I don't usually go to that level. And since I'm blurring the background/foreground I am making the "DOF" shallower. I have not found a really good way to sharpen something that is blurred in the original, so making the "DOF" deeper is not possible (with current technology).

Thanks for the explanation.

DirtFarmer posted "I will defer to your expertise as far as DOF since I shoot mostly events rather than sports, and I like having a wide DOF since I can change the DOF in post to be narrow, but I can't widen it."

Question for DirtFarmer....did you really mean to say DOF? It seems to me you might be referring to Field of View, as you're talking about wide and narrow. In my experience, shallow and deep are more understood to refer to DOF.

Also, how exactly can you change DOF in post?

jk, looking back at your posting history, IMHO, I think, for your own peace of mind, you might want to keep your photography and the hospital and its employees totally separate. It seems like when they've mixed, they've caused you much concern.

If this is the video Photolady2014 is referring to...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dR8Sh-ysbo then the OP did not look closely at the video or was rather disingenuous by not mentioning that the two perps were more than just roughing the photographer up. THEY WERE BOTH ARMED WITH PISTOLS! That might explain why no one came to the aid of the photographer. The photographer was extremely fortunate in that they didn't get his equipment and they didn't shoot him, or any of the wedding party or bystanders.

If Journey Camera/UpStrap have your attention, you want get your order in now. According to their website, they have ceased production and there will be no more straps when their current stock is depleted.

"This is the last batch of UPstaps. I will be around for customer service through 2023
The Price of Rubber, Shipping and Labor has increased. Get what you can while there is stock.
Note- I set the carry weights as the “most comfortable”. The straps will carry more than you can."

This seemed to be a good idea at the time. Then Motorola upgraded their phones and the Hasselblad attachment became an artifact.

As reported by Dick Mangrum, reporter with WGOG radio, Walhalla SC

"The Clemson authority on autumn foliage predicts conditions are such that you’ll be able to take in leaf changes earlier than normal this year. Don Hagan of the Clemson Department of Forestry and Environment Conservation made the prediction standing at the edge of North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest and noted that color change has already begun at higher elevations – above a magical 5,000 –foot mark. And, don’t worry, Hagan says, Hurricane Ian is not likely to have spoiled the color change season at all. For those of us who care not to drive as far as western North Carolina for the spectacle, Hagan advises, “We may have a little bit earlier peak this year at this elevation (the top of Pisgah) than we normally have. But for fall color in the Upstate – along SC Highway 11 and near Lake Jocassee – realistically you’re looking at early November before you see your best colors there.”

A great image, Greg. Maybe it doesn't need quite so much sky, but it's your picture and it is very well done.

Might generate more discussion among the B&W afficiondos if you'd posted it in the Black and White Photography section.
