Oh, does my head swim and heart ache for you. My meltdown was not the same as yours and involved 66000 images. I read, I asked questions and listened, I watched and I worried. My salvation came from my favorite guy at my camera store who agreed to work me to rebuild LR AND help me understand how it works. Please do yourself a big favor and find someone who is qualified and work with them. I googled photography clubs in Myrtle Beach (your location, right?) and there were several. You could probably find someone quite knowledgeable to work with through groups like these. For what it’s worth, the many recommendations and explanations that folks have given you actually make sense to me now. In the midst of my crisis they would have read like Greek.😳

I think the water is very high in iron making it brownish. And that’s a beautiful shot!

I have seen/heard this at the last few weddings we’ve attended. Sometime after the wedding all the people who might want photos of the event were sent a link to the photographer’s site with all of wedding and reception pics and a price list. I, too, have given an album to the family (usually the parents of the bride or groom) and it has always been received with great appreciation and lots of compliments. I have offered to take candids ahead of time (like what the the bride and her attendents are doing while the photographer is busy with the groom) and pictures of as many guests as possible. One friend had me take a very intentional photo of every guest and their +1 or family which they had printed and included in their thank you notes. I think the key is to get pre-approval.

My preference is the last one. I like the details of rocks and moss, the play of light on the water and the more realistic/natural look of the water fall. I spend of lot of time in CO mountains and seeing pictures where I can almost hear the water are the best in my books!

I recently got a new laptop and made a successful transfer of all my photos. They initially showed up correctly in LR (subscription). I had the computer unplugged and in hidden away while traveling and when I re-started the only photos showing in LR were from 2018. The other photos are all present on the d drive. I went to my camera store where I always get good guidance and they told me I should “re-import” them, which I did and all 50,000 are there as before with the exception of my smart collections. Any ideas? Try to keep your responses geared for a beginner, please. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just finished going through several weeks of your photos and I really appreciate your commitment to the project. I imagine your journaling will be really valuable down the road. I especially like your lighting experiments. One of my good photographer friends did this and he said he learned so much from his “planned” shots versus those that he happened upon. Keep up the good work!

“Novice” here😉. Thank you all for your input. I feel like I’m prepared to go forth in the marketplace now. I have a lot to learn, I know. This forum has been really helpful, even if a bit too snarky for my tastes sometimes.

I have been using a Dell Inspiron 1500 for the past 3 years. I use it mainly for Lightroom. We travel quite a bit and I enjoy working on my photos along the way....thus no desktop. I hate it! It is so slow with LIghtroom, slow to reboot, needs frequent maintenance (“new drivers”). I have worked with Dell support too many times to count. So, with this said, where would the UH community suggest I go next in the PC world. At this point I don’t want to switch to Apple due to price.

Can I use a teleconverter on my nikon 18-300? Also, in simple terms please, if I were to use one on my 85mm what would be the effect? Thanks!

Wonderful! Is the shell lying on a surface or have you PS our a suspension system? Either way, very clever and sophisticated subject.

I would repeat, too. I tried taking the same shot replicating my settings taken with aperture priority in Manual. Totally different. Tried it again a few days later and they were much closer.

Thanks for your post. We actually are driving and going directly to Jackson. I grew up in Casper and have to the area many times, but never in winter. My folks did the snowmobile trip in the late 60’s. His photos are long gone now but my memory of them is what “driving” me there. Husband is a good sport and great assistant!
