Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And whither then? I cannot say”

Great photo Al, love the quote too. Take care.

Here's 3 picts from last week's trip to "Cavern Cascade" Watkins Glen State Park, New York.

Your critique and comments are most welcome.

Topdoghawaii really excellent pictures. My wife and I were there two weeks ago. We're both retired so we started at the top and walked to the bottom taking the bus back up to our car. It's a lovely place to visit.

Here's the other quilted wall hanging in the process of designing, Independence Hall. It starts out on 1/4" graph paper & I use an architect's rule to design the building. Everything else is designed as the building is applied to the base fabric. It's so much fun!

Really nice, thanks for posting. Great work

As many of you said they would like to see more of my 16 year old granddaughter’s artwork after seeing her tribute to Robin Williams, I photographed some more and posted them. I don’t know who those people are except for a few she told me. She is back in high school now as a sophomore. During the summer vacation she and her girlfriends went to some concert and she made a picture of the singer the night before to have it autographed only to be told by the usher no autograph signing. But he got a glance of her picture and asked if he can have it for a minute, soon after came an announcement over the speaker “Karina Larsen please come up to the front stage” from there she was escorted to the artist who wanted to buy the picture, Karena said she gladly give it to her free, they singer told her to give her address to the assistant and he will send her an personal autographed picture. A few days later the envelope arrived with the autographed picture and a check for $250. I am not sure with what she was more thrilled with the picture or the check, paid for nice clothes for school. BTW. she has as of now 29,000 followers on Instagram
Since this is not my work, I appeciated your response but will not reply

This tower is located near by Tehran. It is made during the king Tugrol ( One of the dynasty Saljugids of Mongolian Turk Tribes, founder and initiator of Ottomans.
This tower was a multifaceted structure and is made 10 centuries ago.
1- The outer circumference is 9 meter diameter and made of 24 indentations or corners. One can roughly guess the hour when the sun is shining. Let's say when it is 10.40 am it means 2/3rd of 10th teethe is covered by shadow (40 minutes ).
2- Inside of the tower was used as a auditorium. The speaker must stay exactly in the middle of the hall and try to speak without too much effort due to the sound echo. The audience around him plus the people standing in a long distance in front of the tower 2 entrances could hear his speech easily.
3- Full moon in Arabic calender means beginning of the new month. And if it appears and visible exactly on top of the center of the hall you can be sure that the first day of the new month is already started.(The tower has no ceiling).
4- The last thing is the tower was being used as a land mark for Caravans and merchants.

For many of us it comes a time when we tire of seeing more or less the same style in our images. At times we suffer of that "photographic melancholy" because our images do not thrill us like they have done in the past. They simply look alike and there is no challenge when nothing changes.
What about changing what we usually do or what we are doing as a routine?
If you are familiar with the work of Freeman Patterson, famous photographer residing in Brunswick, Canada, I am sure you have noticed he shoots images that he calls "impressionistic."
I have not heard from him in a while but he did not want to go digital preferring film. He does not like to talk about gear and his philosophy has been that any camera can do a good job if the operator does his part.

These are images that can be made in camera or using the magic in software. They are different and quite a departure of what we do everyday so they tend to brake the routine. In his book "Photography and the Art of Seeing" Mr. Patterson teaches these techniques as part of exercises in visual design he calls "thinking sideways."

The first image was shot at Grand Tetons National Park.
The second one in our garden.
The last image also in Grand Tetons. I had other images similar to this but without the blur. The blurred image of the aspens was the one that I enjoyed

most and selected for you to view.
I hope these images will stimulate you to try something different in your photography to brake with the routine.

My whole family was deeply moved by the dead of Robin Williams as he was admired by all of us. As my 16 year old granddaughter just came home from her first day back in school she went to her room and created this tribute to Williams, it’s a pencil drawing on a 5x5” paper, it took her about one hour, I was floored when I saw it and I just wanted to share it with my UHH friends. She put the image on her twitter account and had over 4,000 hits overnight. She has a following of 29,000 I posted some of her work on UHH before and I will have some more soon. I am very proud of her and as her teacher says she has unlimited talent.
