So I shouldn't mention that using M with TTL flash is another separate, partially auto mode?

Depends what you are shooting. TTL is ok,but can't always be relied on . If you are a wedding photographer, time is the essence getting the shots is a priority...Yes?....I much prefer natural light shots anyway.

It would be a trade: the sherpa gets to use my pathetic 300mm lens. ;-)

The bigger expense is the personal trainer and gym membership so I can hand-hold it.

Yes!, that is another reason I don't use it much!

Sorry, meant 400mm 2.8 IS 2, which is very manageable,....for short bursts!

I do not use it that much, reason being it attracts too much attention, also, its hard to get photos when people keep asking questions about it!...Having said that,it is truly a remarkable lens!

Yes, I used to have one of those crappy Canon 500mm f4 lenses. But where does one get one of those fine 500mm f2.8's? Will I have to up my gym workouts just to be able to pick it up and get a BIF with it?

I use Ap mostly,...except when shooting fast moving subjects, then I use s/priority. I see no point in using manual with modern cameras. In most cases, one has little time to get "that shot"

WMarcoux and I were having a discussion earlier (Topic: Kingfisher) about how to best capture Kingfishers, Pelicans and other downward-diving fish-eating birds. The problem is how to keep track of them when they're making their final diving descent because thus far (and I'm new to this technique) the birds (Pelicans in my case) drop faster than I can keep track with hand-held camera & lens. (Canon 5DMII + 100-400 4.5L IS or 300 f4 L IS). I'm wondering if a gimbal head might help or am I destined to be outsmarted by those pesky pelicans? Help! I'm getting more pelican poop than pictures to be proud of!

Its really amazing.
Round about the time that everyone started carrying camera enabled mobile phones, reports of UFOs plummeted.

So either its because no one has any excuse now for not capturing an image of a UFO, or its because the signals emitted by the phone act as some weird sort of UFO repellent.

I do believe that ufo's exist. because I have seen evidence myself back in 1967 while flying from Papua New Guinea to Brisbane fllying at 25000ft, it came fairly close , and flew along close by for one minute, and then disappeared. No one had a camera to take a shot, consequently nothing was said to anyone about the siting for fear of being labeled as "NUT CASES"

Asking questions is not an attack, neither is defending against false accusations.

Nightski is wrong to say that I am trying to undermine "her" section. It is clearly in decline and if not for the artificial support of Nightski's regular contributers, would likely have ground to a halt.

It is inexorably headed toward being only a photographically oriented social site and if Nightski, her group, and Admin are happy with that then let them say so.

Then everybody, including myself, will be happy knowing what its purpose actually is.

Unfortunately no-one, not even Nightski, actually seems to know.

Your continued interjections in her pursuit to get things together needs to stop.Take step back and allow the process to evolve.

You seem to want to take over all the time! Just give her a fair go!.....Please!

I thought the terminology I used appropriate for your attack on someone who is trying to do a very difficult job , and getting very little support and encouragement for it!

For you to say "put up or shut up" implies that the person that is directed to must either provide remedy or keep himself to himself. The term "shut up" directed at a person means that everybody is sick of his uninvited interjection.

Nightski, you would be blind if you haven't seen that lighthouse is deliberately stalking my posts.

He is the instigator of these distractions in every case, just look at how he has caused this thread to ebb and flow.

Then the other trolls latch on as usual and before very long he is successful in his deliberate trolling.

If indeed lighthouse has defended me at any time it must have been either in private or exceedingly fleetingly because sorry, I must have missed it.

And don't you dare state that I am trying to undermine your section.

If that is what I was trying to do, you would know it, believe me.

I am not.

I sent you a PM about an hour ago.

Read it then apologize, privately if otherwise it would embarrass you, then retract your misleading and inflammatory statement.

Rob.

If she though an apology was needed....She has already done that!....Just pull your pin head in and allow her to proceed!

@Lighthouse - Every time the bickering stops and members start posting some reasonable ideas on this thread you and winterrose get into it again and we all have to wait for a pause or work around the two of you. Perhaps you have been unjustly accused on prior pages of this wreck of a thread. I don't care. This time you were the one who restarted the confrontation. Why don't you just SHUT UP.

So now you can send me a nastygram if that will make you feel better. And I hope winterrose does not feel he has to reinforce what I wrote here by sending another confrontational reply.
