I like and use shutterfly. I assemble my photo book on line and then wait for shutterfly to offer a deal on the book, at which time I order it. You can save your book in "my projects" until a big sale comes up.

I have used Shutterfly for years and love them!! I custom make my albums and wait for a sale. They once in a while have a “free extra pages” sale. I make a lot of albums of my travels and of different family events.

No one is going to look at my external hard drive nor in my computer to look for my photos....soooo Shutterfly, for me, is great. They will remember “Meme and Gramps” when we are no longer around, and as eons go by, laugh at what we wore.

Me tooooo, not new! I think I have been around for 5 years. I am Autogal, also known as Edee.
I tried to change my email address and lost my hogs 😩. Can not have coffee without my beloved hogs. It took a zillion emails to no avail...and I somehow got de-activated.

My morning coffee tastes great again while reading all about my hogs.

Now at my age, I want to be kind to my kids. So I am culling big time what I have in storage.

Will they want landscapes of my many trips that did not make the Shutterfly album of that country? And once album made, I did not get rid of the rest....

Will they want photos of folks they hardly know? And parties they were not at?

Will they want the zillion flower and bird photos I took/take? Thinking of making an album of those...

I remember having to go through the zillions of black and whites and color photos my parents kept...

Kept only the photos of them that were not blurry, they were not in landscapes, were recognizable, and not wth folks I did not know, and those where I was with them through the years.

There are a number of "gotchas" here and some are probably not unique to this update. I almost bricked my camera last time (a6000 a few months ago) and this time (a6500) I had to try several times to get it to work. As much as it pains me to say it, if you have a Windows PC available, use it for this update. For MacOS X High Sierra, here are my tidbits of advice in no particular order..

1. Set your computer to NEVER go to sleep nor to let the monitor sleep. You can restore your preferences later but DO NOT allow the computer to sleep when updating your camera. Also, eject all your USB drives before you start the process; the updater messed with mine and caused endless messages about not properly ejecting (I did not mean to eject them). Close all the apps that you can so they cannot interrupt the update. I can't prove it's needed but this would be a good time to do a full, power-down boot to ensure the OS is fresh.

2. The installer wants you to ensure your USB connection is set to "mass storage" and for you to remove the "memory card".

3. This update and probably any Sony update for a while needs a helper app which is on the support page for the update but is not as obvious as it needs to be. If you are running High Sierra you must run the helper app first and keep it running but that is circular as you will see below.

4. Download and install BOTH apps. The regular installer has some cautions about doing some things before you connect the camera to the computer but the helper app wants you to make the connection in order to run and the helper app must be running in order for the update app to work. So my solution was to do all the things in the first step on the helper app (camera settings) then close it, then start the helper app then while it is running, re-start the updater. Clear as mud!
-------------------------------------------------
I did eventually succeed without hurting my camera. I note in passing that the vague reference to camera stability is the only reason I ran the update since I don't have the lens for which is is a necessity. I wasn't having any problem with the camera so in hindsight I might have let it go. That said, it has been my experience with all kinds of computers (the camera is a computer) that updates to firmware or software are best done in the intended increments. Wisdom.

I blame Sony rather than Apple but no matter who I blame, updating my Sony cameras on my Mac computer is really not a happy experience. The time I almost bricked the camera was worse but this was pretty anxiety producing because whenever it did not work (the first few times) it reminded me of the bad experience on the other camera. Don't mind me - I'm just venting.

I hope I don't end up hurting anyone with this advice but right now I feel obligated to tell all the Sony&Mac Hoggers, just in case.
There are a number of "gotchas" here and... (show quote)

Thank you!!! I can soooooo appreciate your comments. Thank God I have a PC laptop that I hardly use... After spending hours on my MAC with the last update , all was done within minutes on my PC laptop. It was insane on my MAC!!!

Thank you everyone who responded...

Yes, the situation is grim when it comes to Nikon lenses and Sony. Much rather spend the money on a new lens than an adapter.

Love my new little Sony, but, feel sad about not using my trusty ole D7100 and all those lenses...will have to buckle up one of these days and put the whole lot in the classified...

Thank you, I did. I would like to hear from some who have the adapters, which ones, and what they experienced as far as quality with their APS lenses

I have the Nikon D7100 and have recently purchased the Sony a6500.

I need your valued opinions on adapters and do they really work with the AF-S Nikon lenses? What I have read is sorta grim....but would like to hear from those that have actually used the adapters with these lenses and what was the outcome....

Thank you,
Edee

I just purchased the 18-135 for my a6500 and I am very pleased with it.

I did a lot of researchand read that it is a bit better than 18-105.

It is always best to try a lens out, as they are not inexpensive, however be aware that if you order from Best Buy and do not like the lens, they will charge you a 15% restocking fee. No one else in the industry does not that I am aware of...

Happy Searching,
Edee

I have both the Panasonic ZS100 and the Sony a6500.

The Panasonic took amazing photos, but, I do find that my new Sony a6500 is much better...the IQ is amazing with the 18-135 lens.

Hello.
You do not have to wait until June for the fix...

There is a very quick fix that you have to do to each filter. I did it 3 weeks ago and it absolutely works.
Just Google “Nik crashes when saving” and just follow the 3 easy steps given....but, do do it to each filter.

Hope this helps.

Had my computer worked on and NIK disappeared. After all the talk on UHH and elsewhere I though that it was gone forever. Anyhow I google Nik and was able to download all the software for free. So if you want NIK this is the time to get it. Best of luck

Hello.

You may find that when you go to use Nik it will crash when you go to "save."

There is a very easy fix....just go to Google and put in "Nik crashing when saving" etc.

The instructions are simple, but, you will have to do it for each filter. Works perfectly after this little fix.
