I have a Vanguard 250 I think, and I am very pleased with it, inexpensive and does the job. It may not be the highest quality , but it works for me with a 500mm f-4 lens.

Phil, It looks like the only thing that I have accomplished lately is to repair things as it seems that everything was in need at the same time. I haven't even attempted to take any images of the oriole so far so need to get with it! Really I haven't seen him for the last several days since I happen to see that his jam feeder had fallen on the ground. I cleaned it and replenished the jam, but it doesn't seem to have been used since then but suspect that he's still around! The weather has been so nice the past few days that we have just been enjoying it and hope that snow will be a thing of the past, at least for a little longer! Always great to hear from you and take care!

I know what you mean, we have been replacing things around here. The dishwasher went, then we had a couple of plumbing problems, it never ends
it's one of the joys of owning a home. Good luck with the Oriole, I keep hoping I will get lucky, as for the snow you can have my vote twice. You take care also looking forward to some pictures.

To the Smoker,
You raise an interesting point. I use Canon Cameras and Lenses (along with others) and have always had access to DPP (digital photo professional). However, I never learned it possibly because I never heard or saw anyone reference or use it. Rather thin reasoning. Although it is true that the more people that use a program, the more people are available to consult with problems, etc. Anyhow, I never did buy Photoshop so I can't use DPP and finish it in CS6 or any other version.
I will give a try to ON-1 and, hopefully, I will be thrilled. If not, you will probably hear about it here. Thank you for the input.
Richard
PS: My Dad's name was Phil. When I saw 'Phil' at the bottom of the post I first thought that the Internet does have amazing 'reach' but could ????.................

i hear some pileated ones in the woods behind our home, but they haven't
shown themselves so far. hope they do!

I have only seen them in the woods behind our home. Just recently we purchased a large seed ring at southern states farm coop. and to my amazement one came to it close to the house. It only stayed a few seconds, but that was enough for me to get three or four shots, he was sitting on that seed ring. good luck, they have never come that close to the house in many years.

Hello pd16 I know exactly how you feel . I have been using CS5 for years, I love it and understand it pretty well, but I have upgraded my camera to the realization that it will no longer process my raw files. So what I have figured out is to process the raw files with the manufactures software that came with the camera and then finish it with CS5. Hopefully this my be of some help.

Great catch Marty, reminds me of our crazy cats. The wife brought a wooden cat in the house & they wanted to kill it.

All are nice, but I love the woodpecker shot.

Thanks Patrick, I got really lucky, I have never had the opportunity to get a up close shot of the Pileated before and this one was very brief. Amazingly I was ready and managed to get off several shots .
