I haven't used my flash in a couple months, so when I took it out today, the low battery warning was flashing. When I opened the battery compartment, I could see that one battery had corroded. I removed all the batteries, carefully cleaned out the crude and replaced with new batteries.
Now, it won't turn on. I've removed, cleaned, and replaced the batteries three times. I don't understand why the low battery warning would come on with the cruded battery, but nothing with the new batteries. I can't decide whether I'd be better off buying a new flash or sending this in for repair.

That happened to me with my SB700. I took a Q-tip and cleaned the contacts with vinegar. I turned the flash on with new batteries and it worked. But later turned it on and it didn't work. I put it on Amazon as a non-working flash for $100 and sold it. I bought a Sigma for around $200. The Sigma flash does everything I need it to do... Good luck.

I looked at the Nikon L830 and was amazed that there was no lag time. I does video. Turn on the camera, and with one second will be videoing. I was truly impressed with how fast the camera responded. Wal-mart has them for $199 and Target runs about $220.

I would like toknow What is back focusing and how to do back focusing in d7000. Some detailed information is much appreciated please.

I just set up my Nikons with back button focus and I really see the advantage. It takes a little getting use to it... my images are sharper because I lock in on the subject and the focus doesn't change when pressing the shutter. There is a lot of information about back button focusing. Good Luck!

I took this image this week end with Sony A7R and
Sony 55-210mm lens, f/6.3 1/250 shutter speed and ISO 200.
In Bridge the red color looked blown out, I know it could be fixed in Bridge or Photoshop but I want to know what I could have done to capture the red's better. Thanks in advance for your help.

There is lots of good advice here.... if your subject is moving because of wind, find something to block it like a piece of foam board and if it is bright and sunny, the light will wash your colors out... use a polarized filter and a ND filter or wait till an hour before sunset... and you may want to manual focus but the key is try different things and you will get the shot you want.

There is a lot of hype about mirrorless cameras, but I just don't get it. They look like a toy and the camera does what a point and shoot does. I talked to a camera shop owner and he said at the consumer level the lens are not good and at the pro level the lens are still limited. I am not knocking the mirrorless camera but I haven't been sold on them yet. This is just my opinion and I am still investigating.

You might be familiar with Matt Kloskowski from Kelby Training. Here's an article he wrote telling you how to spend your money. Maybe I'll start on this tomorrow - or maybe not.

THOUGHT PROVOKING

BACK NINE.I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK.READ SLOWLY!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is - the ' back nine' of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast ? Where did the years go and where did my youth go ? I remember vividly seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that ' I was only on the first hole' and the ' back nine' was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is . . . My friends are retired and getting grey. They move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant . . . But like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day ! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore . . . it's mandatory ! Cause if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit !

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did ! But, at least I know, that though I'm on the ' back nine', and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know for sure, that when it's over on this earth . . . it's over. A new adventure will begin !

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done . . . Things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not on the ' back nine' yet . . . Let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly ! Don't put things off too long ! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether You're on the ' back nine' or not ! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life . . . So, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember, and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past !

"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.

LIVE IT WELL !
ENJOY TODAY !
DO SOMETHING FUN !
BE HAPPY !
HAVE A GREAT DAY
Remember, "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.

LIVE HAPPY IN 2014

It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.

TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

Seems pretty familiar

Hello JoelS

I would be interested in knowing what brand of CISS system you purchased and where purchased. I have an Epson R2880 , used very infrequently and am considering going that route.

My other printer is a R320 Epson. Have locally found a source for NON OEM cartridges at an excellent price.

The one I bought was from Gigablock on Amazon. It works well...

I've toyed around with going the same route, but am chicken that it will fail at the wrong time. I use my Epson when doing event photos, and we print on the spot. My back up is a crappy little Kodak printer that does OK, but the images are nowhere as good as the Epson. Your positive results have me leaning more towards trying it. Once you use it, if you find it isn't for you, is there anything that needs to be done to remove the system and move back to the Epson Inks?

Nothing really has to be done but remove the ink CISS like a regular cartridges and snap the new cartridges ink. Make sure you replace the cover of the cartridges back on. Watch youtube videos on if you arent sure.

I am a photographer. I make photographs. I do not take them, shoot them, capture them, or snap them. I do what I do to see the world differently and to show others what I see and feel. And yes, it really did look like that when seen through my eyes, mind, and heart. The tools of my craft are a camera and a lens, but the tools of my art are my passion and vision. Film or digital. It's not how we make our photographs that matters, but that we make them. The gear I have is good enough, my camera doesn't have to be made recently for me to photograph the present moment. The brand of my camera is irrelevant to the pursuit of beauty and authenticity in my work. Megapixels are no way to measure a photograph. I want deeper photographs, honest photographs that are alive. Not merely really big or really sharp. I hope the legacy I create with my work will be judged not by how many photographs I made in this lifetime, but what those few magic frames do in the hearts and minds of others. Comparing myself to others or them to me, is a waste of my creative efforts and makes it harder to see the light, chase the wonder and do my work. There is too much to see and to create to waste these too few moments. Art is not a competition, but a gift. I believe photographs can change the world because they have done so for me. I believe photography opens my eyes to a deeper life, one that recognizes moments and lives them deeper for being present in them. To be an amateur means to be a lover. Professional or not, I want to do this for the rest of my life as an amateur.
FOR THE LOVE OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

A few weeks ago, I posted that I found an Epson Stylus 1400 printer (wide format) and bought CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System). The problem in printing photos was some banding. After I cleaned and realigned the heads, the banding disappeared and the prints for a 13 x 19 are great! I cannot tell any significant difference between the CISS and Epson Ink except for price. Needless to say I am happy.
