Or you can get rid of it in post. My daughter's eyes are prone to this problem but I take care of it after downloading the pics.

Sorry jerryc41,

I thought the wedding ring comment was directed at me as it was my wife who had the misfortune of being the one that dropped my D7000.
Which is now on her way home from Denver...yes!!

Oh, and one more thing...Go Giants in the World Series!!!

I have a D70 and now a D7000 which is on the way back from Rick in Denver because of "the drop" which happened in Boston snapping the 18-105 VR lens off. Can't wait for it to come home!!

Anyway, I love the D7000 and have had no issues with it or the D70 for that matter. Just looking to get a faster lens for shooting hockey.

You guys, and gals, are all awesome. Thanks so much for all your replies.

Each of your suggestions adds to the "food for thought" and often points one in the right direction to find even more information and answers.

Love this forum!

I am going more and more manual with the settings on my D7000 and I was wondering what most peoples approach is? Do most set their aperture first and then shutter speed using the meter in the viewfinder?

What I have been doing is exactly that. Opening the f stop all the way to let in as much light as possible (to freeze motion) and then rotating the dial until the meter shows that I am not under or over exposing.

Say the meter tells me I'm over exposed so I rotate the dial to the right until I get the meter to zero but I can keep going in the same direction rotating the dial many times before it shows me that I am now under exposing. It gives you a pretty big window of what is considered proper exposure before you go too far to one side or the other. Is it better to dial it so you are closer to over exposing or under exposing? Try to count the clicks and find the center between the two? I guess I could use aperture or shutter priority. Just wondering.

Sorry for my rambling.

Thanks,
Rich

Go Eagles! We are currently living in upstate New York, Clifton Park specifically, and we went to several Albany Devils AHL games last season and plan to attend more. We may be moving back to the Sacramento area in the spring which would allow us to attend Sharks games again, if there is a season next year.

Looking forward to setting up my backyard rink again this year with the hopes of a better winter. It was mild last year so we didn't get nearly the number of skating days we should have had. If we move, I won't be able to do it next year unless I acquire a refrigeration system. Doesn't get cold enough there.

Do you set one up there in Colorado?

Let's hope the NHL gets it's act together soon. I'm not holding my breath and would not be surprised if the lose an entire season again.

More nice shots barry.lapoint. Who doesn't love cheerleaders?

Are those taken at a Colorado Eagles game? My wife and I lived in Johnstown for 10 months and went to several games as the Budweiser center was only about 7 miles away. They are fun to watch and a nice arena as well. We also went into Denver to watch the Avalanche and Sharks.

Sorry MT, I meant to ask if you had any fast LENSES (or one fast lens) you want to let go cheap.

LOVE hockey barry.lapoint!! Nice shot!

I have taken many photos at HP Pavilion of the San Jose Sharks and I was pretty happy with most of them. I was even using my 70-300mm lens (no VR) and they still looked good.

Hey MT, now that have moved on to FX cameras, do you have any fast lens, 2.8 zooms and such, that you might want to let go cheap? I would love to have a better lens for hockey and other indoor low light situations.

Thanks,

Rich

I had the same problem with my 16GB Sandisk cards but once I updated the firmware as jsleszynski suggests, I have had no problems.

Instead of thinking about upgrading the camera every few years, look at lenses instead. I find I'm limited more by what my lens can't do than by what my camera can't do. I'm slowly adding to my collection and as I learn to use each one I learn where I still have things I can't do, or could do better if I had a lens better suited. Face it, no matter how much research you do before you buy your camera, as soon as you buy it they will release a better model. When you do finally decide you have to upgrade your camera, if you stay in the same family your lenses will still work with the new camera.

Completely agree. Your lens will have a huge impact on what your camera is able to do. Glass is the way to go as Old Timer, Macbadger and JoeDesertrat all pointed out.

Once Rick returns my D7000, I will look to improve my collection of lenses. I need one fast enough for shooting hockey as the lighting in most arenas is not that good and the speed of the game makes it challenging.

Nice shot by the way zneb240!

I have the D7000 (currently being repaired in Denver by Rick) and at 16.2 MP is fantastic resolution in my opinion for most photographers. As long as you have total control over exposure values, as most modern cameras do, it's really the glass that makes the bigger difference. I am realizing this more and more as the 70-300mm zoom I purchased with my D70 is just not cutting it for me any more. I'm happy with the 18-105 VR kits lens that came with my D7000 for the time being.

I upgraded from a D70 so I won't be upgrading for awhile.

Try just setting everything to auto and see if you get a normal image.

I'm so sorry about the attitude your children have taken regarding your opinions regarding their decisions. They should be able to listen to your thoughts without judgement. Whether they take your advice or suggestions is up to them but they should at least listen. You can agree to disagree.

I left my first wife because she was verbally and physically abusive. We had two son's together. Come next year, one will be 30 and the other 28. I did everything I could to be in their lives while they were growing up and she completely cut them off from me and continuously fed them nothing but bull@#$% and lies about me. To this day neither one wants to have anything to do with me. They believe everything their mother told them and they have yet to get their heads out of their asses to get my side of the story. It's a shame because my father died when I was three so I never got to have a dad. They have a choice as I am here for them (and they know it).
