I like the 2nd one.

Me too... which is how I originally presented it. Hey, I got the A77.. I'll put it through some paces then write a real review, not like the last hate filled one I did on it due to it being defective.

OK OK OK... 3 shots to compare...
1st is as shot with camera filter. I like this as it shows the rust
2nd is with a post prod Sepia filter, which is how I posted it
3rd is what y'all asked for... Now I don't know which I prefer!
I still like the Sepia wash as it was the mood that strikes me.. What are y'all thoughts?

not sure what the subject is.....house.....plow......setting. If the latter the only thing that would make much difference would be the light. If either of the other two you have to decide if the subject is worth buck shot in the arse.

Well.. the subject is the house, sitting so obviously (too much?) on the 3rds.... And I'm not sure any photo is worth getting into a gunfight for.

brings back so many memories

Did you grow up in a house like this? I fantasized about living in one throughout my childhood. I grew up in a one bedroom urban apartment in a building... I got the (tiny) bedroom, and Mom got the livingroom.... and I dreamed of moving to the suburbs/country and living in a big victorian... Now I live in the country, only not so much in a big Victorian, but still a 100 year old farmhouse.

Great shot of the old place. Think it's still one family?

I believe it still is. There's only one mailbox out front. This neighborhood is chock full of these old Victorians. A lot of them have been divided, as you can see the multi-mailbox units, as well as multi-electrical meters... But there are many that have not, like this one.

The song was a nice touch, but I swear I heard someone calling "Grandpa, Eddy come up out of the lab and get Herman."

I always thought that the Adam's' and the Munsters were related, and it would be quite an affair during a family shindig.

I am working on my composition also. I will give you my input on this one. I think you need a little fill light. It should not offset the polarizing effect at all. The big evergreen blocks the farmhouse too much. I wonder what the shot would have looked like if you took it standing way, way to the right?

I agree.. not enough farmhouse, and tried every angle. This angle gave me the most "house" ... It was strategically placed out of public view, and I didn't feel like getting an arse full of birdshot for trespassing :)

Well, you 134 chances to practice the technique

If I had done that, I would be in a neck brace this morning.

Actually, no panning was involved. The only thing happening besides pressing the shutter release was stepping down the shutter speed (and light comp for the slower shutter)... I would've liked some more sharpness in the stationary objects... But that was impossible with the train rumbling by shaking the earth.

Beautiful... For some reason I cant seem to get that sharp focus, like yours, when I try for a good photo of these....

I think you probably could if you use my settings as a baseline. The most important setting here for sharpness would be the Shutter Speed at 1/500th of a second. Being that it was almost double the focal length (300mm).. as long as there's strong enough light, and you have some sort of image stabilization in the body or lens... you should get this sharpness.

Here I go again. I love the color and your DOF is just fine. However, and I don't give a damn about the rule of 3rds, the pods are too centered. If you were to enlarge them some more in pp, it probably would not matter. It is nice and tack sharp!

Perhaps the in focus subjects appear to be too centered because they are the only ones straight up and down? Although I don't work strictly to the rule of 3rds, both in focus subjects are closer to thirds by far than the center.
