i grew up as a Seventhday Adventist which advocated vegetarian diet is more healthy. Loma Linda, CA is predominately SDA and is classified as a blue zone (one of 5 I believe around the world where people on an average live longer). I personally was raised on both the fake meat and the real meat and I like the both, but the new meatless products turn my stomach. So I think from my up bringing I am a terribly confused person

This is directed to all who have participated. I for one have enjoyed the exchange and it has been very informative. It has enabled me to form my belief as to the best way to proceed as far as energy into the future. Again thank you very much.

I think it is great when our history is recreated so we can learn and enjoy our heritage. Thanks very much

My guess is it’s minimal, but I in no way want to minimize the potential consequences of a nuclear accident. Badly designed/managed nuclear plants (Chernobyl) can have disastrous consequences. One of our members on a precious thread with in-depth knowledge of the accident made some excellent points against nuclear, but I would just add:

1)>30,000 died as the result of the Tsunami that hit Fukushima, but not a single person was killed by the plant meltdowns.
2) There has never been a fatality or serious injury from a nuclear power plant in the US
3) in the case of TMI and Brown’s Ferry, the safety systems did work (in both cases in the face of human error, or abject stupidity at Brown’s Ferry) and the plants were shut down safely with no major radiation leaks or injuries.

Nuclear IS a potentially dangerous technology, but I just don’t see the alternative.

Doesn't burning oil also do that?

That can be argued back and forth, but the years that I spent in wildlife conservation the biggest challenge wss the loss of habitat. The expansion of development in housing etc. Another interesting bit is cattle ranches and wildlife can coexist but not farm land for raising crops. Not saying you should not be farming because we need it but there is no easy answer and it is balancing act

In Montana I always had a hand gun. There was a famous African explorer a lady who explored Africa on her own. Her name was Mary Kinsley. Rudyard Kipling said Mary was human therefore she was afraid of something but no one has ever figured out what is was. Everywhere she went she carried a 45 revolver, when ask why she replied I might not need it tomorrow or next month or next year, but when I do need it I will need it awful bad.

When I lived outside of Missoula, MT I spotted two near my house never on the porch. One day my son and I hiked in on a logging road when we hiked back out we spotted Mountain Lion tracks following our tracks in. Most people would be surprised how many are around and where. There are sightings seen in a town

This discussion is all interesting wind turbines solar panels and all for renewable energy, but on a large scale I afraid it will have a detrimental effect on wildlife both mammals, birds and insects.

A good alternative to the Tesla is the Prius Prime. We have had one for almost a year. It will run for 30 miles on a charge. After that it will continue to run on gas. After almost a year our mileage is about 111 mpg. We can charge it in about 2 1/2 hours for another free 30 miles. After that we can run as long as we wish on gas at about 70 mpg. Tesla can't do that. We usually drive locally (about 30 - 40 miles max per trip) and buy gas every 2 months or so.

I guess you do not want to hear from me. My ideal vehicle in my retirement is a Ford Focus RS with 370 horsepower manual 6 speed transmission and gets 20 mpg. I love it

When I lived in California I would travel to Palm Springs for a long weekend, just outside of Palm Springs the country side is littered with the wind mills. I drove across the US to relocate in Myrtle Beach and through the pan handle of Texas is now littered with them, I am sorry they are a real eye sore. Back in the early 70s our neighbor was a professor at a university and he told me that the US was in decline because we were running out of fossil fuel that was 50 years ago.

My conclusion is there is no free lunch. And by the way I love birds which the wind mills are killing

When I visited Kruger last year, the hyenas were my favourites. Did you see any of the cute babies?

Yes we did, like all things babies are always cute.
