Oh, Ok i just bought the lens last week and it is still new to me. What setting should I heve the camera on?

Ok, the shot was taken at @ 4-5 feet away with a Rebel T3I and a 28-135 lens ISO 200, 56mm, f/4.5, 1/320sec at @ 2:30 in the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. That will be the most accurate I can get.

OK, I was using a Canon 28-135 lens. But I wanted to know the "rule of thumb" and how to get the shot every time.

im using a Canon T3I, 28-135, 50 mm, or 18-55. Here is an Example.
My Son and Nieces daughter.
