Sort of a toss up. I leave the lens cap on as long as I can.
Shooting the moon last night and I noticed a hazy look around the moon and in some there were two moons. I changed cameras with a telephoto lens and a UV filter was left on. As soon as I starting shooting with it off the pictures were great. On assignment for a large church and had problem with sun bursts due to the angle of the lens to the sun. The UV filter did not help the situation. As a general rule I have taken all the UV filters off the lenses and only use a hood that fits the lens. Made life a lot easier.

You sound like me. Now I travel to Europe and S. America only with a Canon 6D and 24-105 f4 and 16-35 f2.8 lens in a backpack with laptop. Total weight is 15 lbs which isn't a problem. I can cover almost any situation that I run into with these lenses and camera. Safe travel and good shooting.
Hi Brenda. Why would you want such a heavy lens with a great sensor on the Canon 6D? The Canon 70-300 is lighter and gives you an extra 100mm. I'm getting tired of hauling all the weight around with my 6D and fast lenses. The 6D sensor is so good it makes a fast lens almost a joke. Their are two kinds of photographers, one that loves the equipment and the second is more interested in the art. Good luck with your decision! George
I have shot pictures for our church directory for three years using a Canon 6D camera and standard zoom lens 24-105mm f4.0L with a 430 EX II speed light. Absolutely no problem with a diffusion cover on speed light. Last week shot both choirs from back of Worship Center with no flash for our website. Not one complaint. This is not a big deal. Inside church I use AWB white balance with P setting and make final adjustments in Lightroom 5. Good luck and good shooting.
Thanks. Always carry an extra battery now.
Don't have a problem with my 60D. Always charge the battery before every shoot. This has been standard practice after a battery went dead on a shoot with no backup. Now that's dumb!!
I've been using a Canon 6D for 6mos or so and it has been an excellent all round camera. My 8x10 prints are excellent whether taken
at night, shots of my dog running, landscape or portraits which I do a lot of for a large church. My backup is a 60D which replaced a Rebel T3. The downside to using a 6D is weight with a standard zoom 24-105mm L lens added. Basically, you can take good pictures with any camera. I like a full frame camera because of the larger sensor.
Used KEH for a number of sales and they were very fair. Remember they have to make a profit on the transaction. The last camera I sold was a Canon T3 w/lens for $200. That price checked out with sales on EBay .
