Cardinal and chuckwh, rather than listing the way to do it here click on the link below and it will show you how to do it in photoshop. i use photoshop 7 but it is the same way in all apparently.

Thanks for the comments, never even thought about cropping (still wet behind the ears)
The second pic i feel i had the iso too high ( taken before i did the two evening courses) and hope to go back with tripod and have another go.
