With the 60D, I had the Canon 18-200 on it all the time which was my only non-kit lens. I decided I wanted to upgrade to a full frame sensor and decided the Nikon line would also be an option since I did not have that much invested in Canon glass. To go full frame I looked at the Nikon D750 and the Canon 6D. I also looked at the Canon 7D MkII, it i has a cropped sensor but has very good reviews. Anyway, I went with the D750. I use the Canon 60D for time lapse and macro photography.

For the D750, it came with the Nikon 24-120 that I use as the walk around lens. I recently bought a Tamron 15-30 that is heavier but great for shots in the city and landscapes. I will be ordering a Sigma 150-600 C this fall.

How do you like the image quality of the 24-120? I am seriously considering the lens when I make the move to the D750. I have read mixed reviews, which are only worth so much, as there is no lens or camera that gets only positive feedback. I would like the Nikon 28-300, but it is very heavy, and I don't know if I can carry it all day while traveling. The alternative, the Tamron, gets mixed reviews (there we go again). This will be a difficult decision.

The 24-120 is also versatile, but nowhere near as much as the 28-300. My combo is the 28-300VR and 16-35VR. As to IQ I'm not sure you will detect much difference. Attached is a landscape shot at 35mm, 1/250, F9, ISO 200, using the 28-300. It has been cropped top and bottom to give it a "pano" look (please download). I tend to doubt the 24-120 would be noticably better under these conditions. I love the dynamic range of the Nikon sensor, shows both good detail in the clouds and in the shadows.

I really liked the versatility on of the Tamron 18-270 on my Canon 60D. The landscape you attached does look very good. I would love to get the Nikon 28-300 for the 750 (when I get it), but I am concerned about the weight. It is very heavy, and I would use it as an all purpose lens when traveling. It seems like a lot of lens to cary around all day. The Tamron is much lighter, but I don't know about the image quality.

I upgraded from a 60D and bought a Nikon D750 earlier this year and started looking at the Nikon and Tamron 28-300. A local camera store had both of them in stock and I shot a few street photos with both lenses on the D750. Based on the slightly faster focusing and slightly better image quality that I thought I saw, the Nikon appeared better. It is heavier than the Tamron and there are many reviews in favor of the Tamron. I decided to wait on purchasing the lens (Nikon probably) until later in the year.

Thanks.
What lens did you buy with theD750? What did you use with the 60D? Do you see a big difference? I am also considering buying the "kit lens"-- the 24-120. It gets decent reviews (better than either 28-300), but I really use the longer focal lengths when I travel. This does get confusing!

During the past week I made two posts seeking info on switching from my Canon 60D to a Full Frame. After getting many suggestions, I carefully researched and considered the Canon 6D, Canon 5D Mark iii, Nikon D610, Nikon D750 and Sony a7 ii. I plan to purchase in the next few months, and unless Canon comes out with an update to the 6D which approaches the Nikon D750, I will go with the D750.

I presently use the Tamron 18-270 on my 60D as an all purpose travel and walk around lens. I am pretty satisfied with the results, but would like better, sharper pictures.

I have read many reviews of the Tamron 28-300, which is for Full Frame cameras. I am well aware that this lens will not allow me to take full advantage of the excellent picture quality afforded by the Nikon D750. And, I do plan to purchase a couple of prime lenses in the future, for which I will ask advice later on. My question now is: Will the D750/Tamron 28-300 give my much better quality photos than the 60D/Tamron 18-270 combo. If not, I may keep the 60D and continue to use it for travel. If yes, I would sell the 60D/18-270 and use the cash to buy the full frame 28-300.

PS: I know the telephoto advantage of the crop sensor. That is not an issue. I know the quality advantage of prime lenses. That is not an issue now. My main concern for the moment is the sharpest possible photo quality with one of these two camera/lens combos.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks. First try did not work.
Let's see if the second is the charm.

Bob Boner,
Thanks for your thoughts. The 5Diii is a great camera!! To big and expensive for me, though.

John Howard,
Thank you so much for your very thoughtful an honest reply. After reading replies to my post, and many reviews, I have definitely been leaning toward the 750. I thing your response may be the clincher.

lwerthe1mer,
Thanks for your take on the sony. I appreciate hearing forms many sony owners. I am learning that Sony has many cool features, including focus peaking and in camera stabilization. These are very intriguing. Unfortunately, after getting many replies from fellow hoggers, and reading more reviews, I am beginning to see many downsides to the a7ii, which are pushing me toward the 750.

RGreenway,
Thanks for your take on the Sony. It does have some cool features, like focus peaking, as you mentioned. Manual focusing is a deal breaker for me.

ralph4176,
Thanks for your take on the Sony. Yes, I think that cost (of lenses, adapters and flash) will play a part in my decision making process. I am beginning to lean heavily toward the 750.

Mickey Mantle,
Thanks for your take on the Sony. Yes, it does have some nice features which is what led me to it in the first place. From what I have read, and heard from fellow hoggers, the deficits (weak battery life, expensive lenses, need to use manual focus with the adapter) would make it a poor fit for me.

Thanks for your input. Your comments about battery life, and manual focus are very helpful. I am beginning to lean heavily toward the D750.

MT,
Thanks. I definitely will be going to the local stores and to try out the different cameras. Before doing so, I just want to limit my choices so I am not overwhelmed by too many cameras. Your comments about the Sony are helpful in my decision making process. Thanks again.
