I decided to bring this up for discussion, my concerns and comments on this subject are from direct personal experiences and observations. Within the last 8 months, I have had the honor of being jury selected in several art exhibitions and thrilled to have been chosen in a national awards series for emerging artists ( oil , acrylic paintings, sculpture, and photography ) sponsored by a worldwide famous distillery company.
This latest distinction has been the highlight of my photography career which has been a result of self teachings.
In ALL, the events, the semi-finalist, finalists and winners, photography was well under represented in comparison to the classics forms of art. My non-scientific calculations show photography is represented at or about 10% - 20% for every event I have attended or been a participant of.
That being said, I am seriously preparing a marketing presentation for galleries. I realize there are galleries who specialize exclusively in photography, however they seem to be very ' clickish ' meaning, if you don't know the 'right' person, you don't have a chance to get your foot in the door.
So, I am forced to address your conventional galleries, I am not going to approach them with my observations of inequality towards photography but can someone give me some advice or if you do not have advice, please comment on the topic and your thoughts or observations.
