Question: How can you remove a stuck filter from your lens? I have tried the old "rubber band trick" but it is still stuck. Would W-D40 damage the lens if it was sprayed on the filter threads?

Brent, you could try a filter wrench also. Since your lens is a 95mm, you will need something large for the consistent, even pressure required. PM me if you want some help. I’m here in HB today.

Excuse me then. I must have misunderstood what he wants.

I have an M-42 screw mount to EF bayonet adapter and there are many others. This one is and old cheapo, that I bought many years ago, I think it was somewhere in the 14 to 19 dollar range. But I have used it quite often and I never had any issues. I also have and old C-mount (srew) to EF bayonet adapter. One just has to google it and there should be a lot of options/offerings!

Found this with a simple search for bayonet adapters. There are many to choose from, this ones for Leica: https://www.cameraquest.com/adaptltm.htm and the screenshot is for Canon.

How to protect against on-line pirating?
I use mostly open-source processing software: Light Zone, PhotoScape and the Canon proprietary software. I’m about to go live with a dedicated Facebook page and don’t know how to prevent someone from printing my images. Thanks.

At the top of this page, click on search and type in - watermark. There are lots of discussions about that.

Who needs a pier when you have this! Great series.

Thank you. I did make it all the way next day to the beach, but it was a very grey day. The air was very thick. The sky had no substance and the light cast a pall on everything. The photo is of Rubys at the end of Huntington Pier. The waves were breaking nicely and the surfers were aplenty.

For the centerline of the lens and tripod head height, use a 3/8 inch clear tube of any length filled with water, the presence of small bubbles should not matter. Water will find its own level and this will give the precise measurements you need without very much expense.

Still a single camera solution....

Trace a circular line on the ground around the monument. Mark every place you want to take a capture. Use a tripod, vertical column on the each mark, in turn.

You have two issues:
- Tripod level (as horizontal)
- Tripod elevation.

The tripod elevation can be easily solved using a laser lever fixed on a second tripod, the laser being reoriented (rotated) toward the next point of view using the first tripod elevation as a reference. Both tripods need to be level of course.

For the tripods height and centerline of the lens, RGG suggests a laser level. I have a very inexpensive alternative. Water always finds its own level in a tube. Many years working on construction projects and my Pop’s experience as a boatwright taught me that if you take some 3/8 inch clear tubing of any length and fill it with water, each end when raised will be perfectly level to the other. Once it settles of course.

As to focusing error. It was fixed and while the DoF was enough, the wings are sometime out of focus, among other things.

Lighting is not a problem per say. Focusing is.
If you want consistant lighting wait for an overcast day.

Sure better than doing chores!

Yes it is, but the chores sure beat sitting on my backside staring at the tube. The walking helps keep my body and my mind fit. And the camera gives me something else to do besides walk. And when my Lady Katrina says “ Just go out and talk to people!” I know it’s time to give her a break.

Outstanding. Sharp and well composed. Birds will distract you from doing what you had planned - they do it to me all the time.

I still struggle with the composition and I am getting better with the focus. Will birds catch my eye?
Yes they will! Especially the Shore Birds.

Went out yesterday afternoon for a walk to the beach. I’ve come back to Huntington for a few days to take care of some appointments and chores, so I thought a walk to the pier was in order. Never made it there. We have several small wetland areas in Huntington and the one I walked past had these guys hanging out. Stayed for an hour and never made it to the Pier.
