Get yourself a Black Rapid RS 4 camera strap...I have a Sigma 150 -500 as well and nearly everything I do is hand held...with this strap you can just let your camera hang by your side when not in use and let your arms have a rest...Just attach it to the Sigma tripod mount...this mount is also great as a handle when shooting...
I do a lot of birds in flight stuff and a tripod is too slow and awkward so I must hand hold, it's much faster...

Maybe a reject that looks OK from the outside...?
One of my "things" was inventing new types of welding equipment, mainly new types of welding torches...I have one of each out in my shed. I not only designed them, but made the prototypes as well...
I did a lot of work for Boeing during my time, mainly on the structural side of things related to welding.

It's a bout 50mm diameter.
I'm a mechanical engineer (now retired, 10 years ago, due to my spinal injuries) and this was a gift from a rep from SKF Bearings...it sat on my desk and is now in my display cabinet...
The other "wheel" is a cam from my compound bow...just another momento in my cabinet as with my spinal problems, I can't shoot any more eirther...still do a lot of coaching though...
Both were taken with my Nikkor 40mm Micro lens...Nikon call it "Micro" when it's actually a macro lens...a great lens for portraits and scenery as well as ultra close ups...you can actually touch a subject with the front glass if you need to get that close...

Nice picture, the close up, the warmer colour and the rotation make it look like a different subject matter.

So your pic is taken with natural light coming in through your tinted window only, is that correct?

Yes, I did do some colour enhancement but the colours were there to enhance...

Did you take any other shots with different aperture or shutter speeds for comparison?

This is the only other one I kept from the series but they all ranged from almost black to very over exposed...this one has had no colour enhancement so you can see the difference
The other were also done using the same light, also with some enhancement...

Just the head...?
I think the tail is needed so we know what the animal is...a Ring Tailed Lemur...?
Is this what you mean...?
Leaves out too much info for me...

My torch and filter didn't cost much at all and I already had them. I have heard about people using sweet wrappers from quality street or roses as filters and there should be plenty of them around this time of year, reds, purples greens and golds ;)

If you mean too rich in terms of ideas then maybe a bit trickier, you just have to think outside the box ;)
With digital photography having no film developing costs or time delays you can try anything and maybe get an effect that you didn't expect but love :)
My torch and filter didn't cost much at all and I ... (show quote)

I found I could get some really interesting light effects by just altering the shutter speeds and aperture while shooting in front of a tinted glass window (our house window, just tinted, not coloured) using natural light...it's fun to muck around and experiment at times and as you say, it costs nothing...

This pic...
1/20 sec exposure
F 3.6
ISO 400
Shutter Priority
No flash
Nikkor 40mm Micro lens @ 40mm

The second pic is the clock I photographed.
