Like you, I had to retire my film cameras a while back; it's been a fun transition and now the only aspect of film photography I miss is tinkering with monochrome exposures. Unlike you, I had to make a decision on my technology format, and chose Canon; mainly because of the reliability of the bodies under all weather conditions, and their superlative "L" lens family. I've enjoyed phenomenal reliability with my Canon equipment (zero fixes, over 12 years, with 4 different body models and 8 units), so for me, that was a financially wise decision.

My main cameras are Canon. I began collecting them soon after the 10D was introduced. My every day camera is my 5DIV and my favorite utility lens is my EF 28-300L followed by my EF 100-400L II. For birding I usually use my Nikon D500 with my Nikkor 200-500 and Nikon 1.4 teleconverter. I used my 7D II more often prior to getting the D500 but it still gets used often enough. I currently have only one MILC, a Canon M50 that I bought to see what all the rage was about. I still don't know what all the rage is about, it's just a camera, but I do like it.
