To which I would like to add: Put the camera into that plastic bag while you are still in the cold environment.
If you wait till you get into the warmer environment it will be too late.

I updated the Pictures section's rules, and added this clause:

This goes into effect immediately.
If you mess with other people's photos without them asking, you'll get banned.

I couldn't find a "Picture" Section on the All Sections list, am I safe to assume this rule applies to all sections on Ugly Hedge Hog?

Not that I'm totally unhappy with the lab I've been using price is really good but it seems they sometimes 're-adjust' what I send and if I do large batches it seems to take forever.
What's your favorite and why?

Where you say that sometimes they 're-adjust' - when you order are you given the option to ask for NO correction of your images?
If you monitor is properly calibrated and you like what you see on the monitor at home, "no correction" should be checked on your order. If they don't give you that option, look for a lab that does.
BTW, if you don't see that option, ask them about it, it appears that sometimes the checkbox is hidden in the order forms somewhere.

Does anyone know if this effect can be controlled or is it more of an "on-off" switch. I like the effect it gave me; but I would love to know if the photographer has any control or does PS do it and you take it or leave it?

If you were to make a second copy of you photo, then flip it so that the edges meet (ending up with half of the image is it was, the other half a mirror image), then use the polar coordinates, you'll have a seamless round image.

Another option is to pick an image where the horizon is very low, while buildings, people, trees, are centred in the image.

There are a lot of ways you can "play" with the polar coordinates: have all four sides of your image the same length, use a landscape orientation image, add "empty" space above or below the image, turn the image upside down - and I'm sure that when you start playing, you'll find other ways as well.

I do have the Premier version. What is the difference? I sort of figured the Premier part was for video.
Thanks for the warning.

I have both.

Photoshop Elements: Photo editing. In 12 I especially like the content aware move tool. Was sorry to see the Magic Extractor gone, but have no found that the Quick Selection tool combined with Refine Edge is adequate, at least for what I use it for.
Also gone: Colour Variations. However, that can be "imported" from an earlier version. I can't remember how, at this point, but if you look for messages by Ziza, I'm sure it was her who gave the instruction to do that.

Adobe Premiere Elements: Video editing. It takes my video straigt out of the camcorder (.mts), it will also take .avi and mp4 files and a host of other ones. While my camcorder takes 16:9 images, I was sent some clips in 4:3 (I think, the older t.v. size) and had no problem inserting them. Adding music, adding speech, adding transitions, all work great.
Although I do have version 12 on the computer now, I haven't actually used it, but anticipate "attacking" it after New Year's when I will hopefully have some new video to edit.

I admit the tongue distracts me :) I see these beauties often, so guess I prefer the more regal look.

As for sharpness and exposure, did you know you can see your car in his eye?!

The very first time I saw these animals was on our honeymoon, also along the Columbia Icefields Parkway. I had been told they were extremely shy animals and we'd be lucky to see any. Yea, right... they walked right up to our car.

I'm a bit jealous of this picture, first because of its quality, but also because we didn't get any back then.

To me, it is not so much the tongue, as the part of horn to the left of his nose that I find distracting. That I would clone out. After that: It is a perfect picture!

you maybe on to someting BUT, the magazine i have, say it the no.1 guide to photoshop & elements, unless i'm missing something. it is written for both. if you just use photoshop in the post. lot of elements users may skip over it...

Gotcha.
"Photoshop Creative" is the name of the magazine which claims to be "The World's No 1 for Photoshop and Elements".
It probably would be clearer if you used "Photoshop and Photoshop Elements" in your topic title.
The sentence "How to create vivid photo effects in Photoshop elements creative" threw me for a loop, as you use a program to create these vivid photo effects and there is no such program as Photoshop elements creative.
Call me a nit-picker, if you like ;-)

So, having said all that, how do you like that magazine? Do you have a subscription or do buy a copy off the news stand every so often? Hmmm, I wonder if the magazine is even available in Canada...

Any tips on selling photos on the internet
Best sites, cost, how to price a photo, uploading to the site, protecting from theft, etc.

Insurance. If you do not already have you photo equipment insured separately, do not count on your home owner's if something goes wrong.
I read an article just in the last few days, if your insurance finds even one of your images on the 'net for sale, you're "commercial" and your home owner's will not pay out if something goes wrong.

Sorry dirtpusher, I don't want to be picky, but so to keep things "straight": The program in the subject title should be Photoshop or Photoshop CC.
Unfortunately there is no Photoshop Elements Creative - although one can get very creative with PSE ;-)

That's why Adobe has provisions in place for situations when, for example, one of your two computers dies, you get a third one but Photoshop is still installed on the computer which died.

All you need to do is call Adobe and have them de-activate the registration code that you used on the "dead" comuter. Once that's done, you can install it on another computer.

Page 98 (don't let the initial foreign characters and language on page 1 scare you off - English is farther down)
Clauses 2.1.3 and 2.1.5
You may install on two computers, both in your own home and both running the same operating system. The two installations may not be used at the same time.
If you have installed on Windows and want to install on Mac as well, you have to purchase a second license.
Even if you have a dual boot machine and want both a Win and a Mac version on that machine, you have to buy two licenses.

Yes it can

Open Elements 9
File > open as (an explorer dialogue box will open, navigate to where the jpg is)
Go to the bottom of the dialogue and where it says "Open As" click the down arrow and find jpg)
select the jpg and click open

Camera Raw will open with the jpg ready for editing

Sorry Searcher, but when you click the down-arrow to Open As, select Camera Raw (3rd line down). Otherwise you'll end up with just your regular jpg editing.

I agree.
Any talk of different pitches is just hogwash by someone who doesn't understand what they are reading, that should be ignored.

So lighthouse, what AM I reading? Never mind, this is the last reaction I will give on this subject. Just try and screw a .75 pitch filter onto a .50 pitch screw thread and then take it off again.

BTW, I would very much appreciate donmabry to post here, if and when he finds out the reason for his filters and step-down rings not seeming to fit each other.

I can't argue with Morning Star but, I'm going to have to go with Jerryc41. I've never see the word 'pitch' associated with a filter. It's hard enough keeping up with the filter sizes and, to throw pitch in the mix would make it impossible. And, when ordering these adapters, pitch is never mentioned. It the filters (or adapters) had a different pitch, there would be about 1000 different sizes one would have to keep track of. But, like I said, I'm not qualified to argue the point and I will consult with my local camera dealer. I do know that I'm going to buy a filter wrench at the first opportunity. I just know I'm about to screw something up!
I can't argue with Morning Star but, I'm going to ... (show quote)

I like looking things up, it's one way I learn :)
So I spent some time on the Hoya website, and ended up downloading the filter catalogue. (It's going to cost my husband money as I saw several filters I wouldn't mind having. Christmas next week, and not very long to my birthday, either).
Anyway, Hoya has filters of 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 Pitch. Not several pitches per filter, but several filters of different diameter with the same pitch.
See: http://www.kenkotokinausa.com/download/HOYA-Filter-Catalog-2013.pdf page 53.
What I was not able to find, is whether for example the 0.50 pitch for a 30mm diameter Hoyal filter is standard across the industry, or whether 30 mm diameter filters from different companies have different pitches.

No, I haven't. I've purchased them from Amazon and Adorama. But, your suggestion of taking them to the camera store is a good one. I think may just do that.
