I haven't found it to be problematic when shooting with IS on, even when using a tripod. I never turn it off.

Of course it's best not to use on a tripod. How about a monopod?
Do you use it for action shots, still shots, multiple shots, etc.?

Thank you all for the valuable advice. I do appreciate your feedback. I have time to think about what to take and will consider everything you've contributed.

Yes. Look up Bearded Heron Safaris with Neil Heron, safari specialist.

Does your friend who gifted you with a safari need any more friends? I'm planning a trip to Africa, the private tour with a well regarded guide sounds interesting. Any more info available about that?

Enough already! As I said, the ad has now disappeared.

The ad has now disappeared. Suffice it to say that it was about graphic sex that wasn't romantic in nature!

For those of us who have never seen an ad here which is remotely pornographic, it would be interesting to hear what you felt was pornographic.

I should have specified that I am going on a private tour with my siblings to Kruger National Park with a well-regarded guide. Apparently he is also a photographer. Thanks for the advice you have all given me so far.

For those of you who asked, surely I don't have to describe what was pornographic about the ad! It appeared when I first opened up the daily feed. After I posted my question and returned to the feed, the ad had disappeared in favour of the Portrait Pro ad.

I am so lucky to have been gifted with a trip to Africa and a safari in 2019. For those who have been there, could you please advise on the following.

I have a full frame Canon 6D Mk II and a 70D crop sensor. For the full frame, my longest lens tops out at 105mm. For the crop, I have one that tops out at 250mm. Given that the 250mm on a crop is actually at lot higher than that, would you take the crop over the full frame? Or, would you save up to buy a new lens for the full frame that goes to around 400mm? Bear in mind that I can't hand hold steady anything that's too heavy.

For me, the problem in both is that the object of his contemplation is missing. All we see is a guy (plus the distracting people behind) standing by some boats.

I watched this scene in Rio for a while--at the site where fishing boats come in. This man was above the hubbub--just watching. In image two he seems sort of sad, and in image one he seems proud. Another question about cropping these pictures. The scene was chaotic and I didn't want to crop way in because I wanted to capture that...but does he (the "hero" in the picture) get lost? Comments really wanted. NC

This morning the ad that appears at the top of the daily feed was pornographic in nature. Has anyone else seen this? Admin, is there anything you can do about these?

Lovely portrait. And, there's nothing wrong with the coats - shows it was a chilly day.

Yeah, I know...we're into winter already. I finally got a around to ordering my framed canvas wrapped prints (at www.CGPROPRINTS.com) to hang in our basement. We have a wall where we've hung one 16x20 fall photo a year since both kids were born. This year was a bit challenging due to my daughter being sick (12 days) and having some not so compliant wet cold weather towards the end of season up here. But I did manage to get this gem (unfortunately with coats on). Shot with my EM1ii and 150mm f2.
Yeah, I know...we're into winter already. I finall... (show quote)

Why do you have to pick? They're both good.

I have a fundamental problem with post processing in that I don't know when to quit, i.e., I can't even decide what amount of processing I like best. So I'm coming to you hoggers with several options of several photos to give me your learned opinions. I have several sets of photos to compare so if you would like to help me please keep looking at the thread as I will post more after I get some opinions on each set. Thank you in advance

Set 1, which crop?

Always a zoom because you never know what you might need. An 18-135 on my crop and a wide-105 on my full frame.

I keep at least one camera (preset for most parameters) on a nearby shelf set to allow me to grab it and go quickly in case of an unexpected photo opportunity. Have mixed feelings about a zoom vs. just a 50mm (FF) or 35mm (Crop). What do you favor?

I'm a Brit and those dogs look like American-bred bulldogs for the most part - especially those with cropped ears.
