Any local Hogs going to Javits for the PhotoPlus show at the end of the month? Friday the 31st?

I'll ring up an old girlfriend and see if she has a spare broom I can borrow. I know she'll be using her regular one on Halloween. (Can't afford an aeroplane ticket.)

If the responses it gets is any indication, post processing is never a stale topic here. I've read everything from page 1 to present, and had to download additional browsers due to overloading the "Favourites" folders!

Dan L. Thanks for that thought. I think use of gasket material would require removal of the existing hardened rubber. That is a chore I was hoping to avoid.

Automotive supply stores sell rubber lubricant, which may soften it a bit. (Or not.) Once rubber has hardened and cracked though, I'm sure nothing will restore it. I think transmission fluid may make it gummy, but there is no harm in trying. (I'm no help at all, am I? ) Good luck!

Leitz, after I just discovered the search section upon our venue, it's been discovered that you are absolutely correct !

My apology to you for having suggested that our members join in on such a ridiculous discussion, especially, being that it has been discussed far too many times recently ~ as well as in the past, and I would also like to commend you for having become a relatively new UHH member ~ now going on 11 days ~ which means that we all shall be looking forward to your contributions to the site as well, but, please, whatever they may be, may they be far more interesting than those I have posed of late !

Best Regards,

Leitz, after I just discovered the search section ... (show quote)

Thank you very much. I'm new to the forum, but not to the sport! Ridiculous?? There is certainly no need to apologize for anything, as you've seen post processing is always a hot topic here. Some of the members are veritable gurus. I'm pretty new to digital, and have learned much here and reading through the Post Processing Forum long before joining. I'm also looking forward to future discussions. :)

Yes it sure has, yet software is updated and new ones come out every 6-12 months. :)

Quite so. And a good thing, too, else we'd be saying the same things over and over.

Good Day To All..

For my fellow UHH members, that is, if you are up to it, how about our having a discussion about what post processing software is our favorite or our favorites ?

Such as:

Your favorite software for "Grunge"
Your favorite HDR software
Your favorite software for portraits
Your favorite software for landscapes
Your favorite software for panoramas
Your favorite software due to it's presets
Have I overlooked any other category ?

This has been discussed nearly every day for the past four years, as a search will reveal.

Am I correct in assuming that it is important to have it set just so-so when you are doing manual focusing and not for auto focus?

"Diopter Adjustment Question" (There, now isn't that better? :) )
You are correct, you do want your diopter adjusted just so.

Yep. You can get a 3tb external drive from Western Digital for under $150. I generally like their products. Don't let that scare you away.

There was a 3TB Western Digital mentioned earlier (Page 1) for $91. Better yet!

I dropped my Nikon D50 pretty hard while on vacation. It still takes pictures, however none of the functions work. By that I mean, whatever it was set on before it fell, is what I can use on it now: can't change the aperture, shutter priority is on bulb... its become a big "Point-&-Shoot". Question is: is it worth fixing? Can it be fixed? Should I bother? (I really liked that camera...)

Are you able to reset it to factory default?

Thank you for all your suggestions which I've taken on board. Michael

I might add, that if you're concerned about direct salt water spray you may consider using a clear protective filter. To clean, simply hold it under warm tap water, shake it off and gently wipe dry with a soft cloth.

This may seem an extremely basic question which may or may not have been asked before, if so apologies.

What cleaning solution do you all use for on your lenses and filters please? I've got the usual lens blower, cleaning pen to get rid of dust etc but I need something to really clean the glass. What's prompted the question is that I'm going on a cruise shortly and obviously there's salt in the air which will dry on the glass and shall so need removing. I don't want to use a brush as it might scratch the lens as salt has abrasive qualities. My local opticians in the U.K have suggested using lens cleaning solution which I already use for my spectacles but I'm not sure if this is suitable for photographic equipment. Thank you.

Modern lens and filter coatings are certainly harder than plastic eyeglass lenses. A camel's hair lens brush is perfectly safe to use to remove any loose particles. After brushing, spray a bit of eyeglass cleaner on the lens or filter and gently wipe with the microfiber cloth that comes with the cleaning kit to remove dried salt crystals, smudges, etc. Use your lens hood (as you should in any case), it will help protect the front element from indirect salt spray. Enjoy your cruise, and do not fear to take the shot. :)

Phyl - Have you tried comparing them via the www.snapsort.com site? I've recently sought details concerning alternative camera choices; other HOG members suggested "snapsort" which turned out to be quite comprehensive, quick and intuitive. Beats "jumping off a bridge" <grin>

Snapsort may say which camera has the best of each type of viewfinder, but this does not address the OP's question of which type is best for him/her. This is strictly a subjective matter that only the OP can determine by actually shooting with each one.

Sigma has officially released a statement that due to the unexpectedly high demand that the new 150-600mm Sports lens will not be available as a stock item for awhile. Pre-orders has been VERY high and since its a brand new lens design production will be limited. Pre-orders placed with companies that typically sell a lot of items (i.e. B&H and Adorama) will have very long wait times as they always end up with the most pre-orders.
Initial images released from this lens are amazing, and with the Sigma USB Dock adjustment capability there will be a lot of people wanting this lens. The "Contemporary" version will also offer USB Dock capability and at a much more affordable price ($1099) but will not have many of the Pro features of the "Sports" version.
I suggest pre-ordering from smaller dealers to get quicker deliveries.

Do you know whether or not the focus changes while zooming with the Sport? If it does not, it would be a most useful lens to me.
