Are you talking about film cameras ?.... Most DSLR's have the info in the viewfinder & on the top LCD (which can be illuminated.... If you know your camera, you know where those buttons/dials are & can see the changed settings rather easily in the places I mentioned.... That said, it is a PITA when you get a new camera & the buttons/dials are in a different place than they were on an older camera...
This was when the camera was new and I didn't have all the buttons memorized. But to this day I can sometimes forget where any given control is (I've reached that age.)
