Consider Mirror-less cameras, great lenses and a fraction of the weight to carry.

You may find mirrorless to be an easier transition from your bridge camera too.

headed to Lisbon and Porto - have checked and found the normal things to see, on the web; my lady friend and I usually like to stay a few days in places to, in particular,
walk around neighborhoods and taste and photograph local life; any suggestions for subjects off of the beaten path ?

Sintra, Cascais and Evora. Especially Evora. Try to stay a night in Evora if possible.

You can get shift adapters for most mirrorless cameras to use with standard lenses. These will give some degree of perspective control on camera. I think they work best with M4/3 cameras. Fotodiox have them for a variety of cameras and lens mounts. I think one be my next purchase. I'll post how it turns out.

I have used my old Nikon glass with my a6000 using a "dumb" Metabones adapter. In other words, I have to focus manually and use manual or partly manual exposure settings. My results with my 200 mm prime were not as good as I was expecting. Then I bought a mint 300mm F4.5 and I still found that it did not perform to my expectations. OTOH, my 50mm F1.8 is fantastic on my Sony.

You will want to use "peaking" for focus and while it does work pretty well, it's not as good as a good focus screen in an old, film SLR. I find that the new lenses with AF and that are recognized and "corrected" by the camera are usually better.

Focus peaking is very convenient but for best manual focus use the focus assist feature. You may have to dedicate a button for it. Press the button and it enlarges the image, reds again and it enlarges again so you can get really sharp focus.

Exposure is no problem even with the dumb adapter (around $100 if I recall).

You will have to tell the camera, in menu, that it's OK to "release" without lens because the camera thinks there's no lens when you do as I have done.

Feel free to PM for more detail

Hunt's are great. Highly respected for their service and for their commitment to the New England photo community. They sponsor numerous events of their own and subsidize local camera club events.

Another thing. With my Sony mirrorless, I can do everything through the EVF including changing the Menu settings and reviewing the picture. If I had to use the rear LCD for this I would have to put my reading glasses on to see what I am doing. With the diopter on the EVF set properly, I don't need glasses at all. I don't know how much you can do on a typical DSLR viewfinder, but that should be a consideration if you use glasses.

If you go to a store to check out a mirrorless, don't just pick it up and play with it. Have somebody give you a proper demonstration. Many of the best features may be in the menu set up.

The EVF on the A6000 is very good, but the EVFs on the A6300 and the A6500 are even better. I think the image in the EVFs are bigger and cleaner than the viewfinders on equivalent priced DSLRs which tend to be very small in that price range. Displaying the over exposure zebra bars and the focus peaking dots and the histogram can clutter the EVF but they are great information to have.
