i used my sony a77ii with one lens -- 16-300 Tamron zoom - on a Viking river cruise; it saves a lot of time rather than having to switch lenses, since there are so many times where you'll want both wide angle & tele and the ship is constantly changing your perspective. you can quickly get panoramas, then detailed castle shots. i probably shoot mostly in the 70-100 range

almost all the buildings are empty - they were salvaged from the jungle in early 20th century - some like those shown were left with the trees & other vegetation intact

I would have advised maybe painting is a better hobby.

I found this info very useful at the same time I hope I never need to know. I also suspect exactly what is going to happen if I wade in to any water body since I have this new info to draw from.

actually i wasnt even wading - tide was going out, i was on a rocky bench about 1' above a wide, exposed sandy beach stretching a long way in each direction; i saw the wave coming in and figured it would run as some others had - covering my sandals to the ankle; but this time after passing me, it rebounded and must have curled after hitting a 3' shelf behind me, quickly coming up over my waist and knocking me over. i was only under a few seconds and water receded quickly - the beach had a lot of people nearby, out about the same distance as me and none of them even noticed what had happened

i did have insurance ($35/yr rider on home) and replaced w latest model; my question was to see if anyone might be interested in trying to salvage it

..... if that program still exists and can be updated to current computers it could help us all especially those of us who shoot existing light in gymnasiums. ....

the free Google Nik collection has a good noise reduction filter (as does, of course PS ); previously i had used the free Noise Ninja addon for PS or Elements

my sony a77 has a special multi-frame NR feature that's excellent for low light (not the same as the noise reduction setting that's of less usefulness) - it takes 5 or 6 quick shots at iso6400 so there's little camera shake even handheld. then it averages all which, since the noise is random, does a good job of removing noise.

I've always felt they are closer to an emerald green. Whatever it is, they are indeed magnificent, perhaps so magnificent they are difficult to describe! :o)

both are among the range of colors (and lighting) you can find depending on the glacial debris & silt supplying the lake - in Nepal the Dudh Khosi is named for its milky color

thanks all for the quick replies!

i did most of the recommended steps - battery removal, rinse, rice, etc, but mostly you've confirmed my thoughts that the camera's a goner. looks like there's some hope for the lens (tamron zoom for sony)

i was hit by a rogue wave (4'+ water on a long flat beach!) and momentarily tumbled underwater, so both camera and zoom lens had brief immersion in salt water - can either of these be salvaged? best solution would be someone who could do the work themselves, rather than sending our for repair

any suggestions?

Didn't Caesar/Rome, set rules in Great Britain, in the same fashion as Great Britain did in early America. Rule by military power.

Rome's military occupation ended in 4th c CE and was marginal even before that - britain's law was more influenced by angle-saxon-dane-norman

britain didnt use military power as its main governance but rather a mercantile system where england was the only country colonies could export to, and only british imports were allowed in colonies; along with discouragement of colonial manufactures. (thus smuggling could be lucrative) even when fighting in the colonies, whether american, or later, India they relied on local militias and recruitment rather than large influx of armies

i've got an epson that does a good job, but it's slow - and no way to batch it. also, it's a lot of work pre or post to get rid of dust, scratches, etc

i've also had several thousand images done thru scancafe.com - using their pro service it's about $.25-$.35 per scan AND you only pay for the ones you want - you dont have to pay for scans that turned out to be out of focus, poorly lit for scanning, etc -- i'm working thru a 35K slide collection and will definitely be using them again

Tours are usually very limited for photography - too many places you're interested in aren't covered.. Johnston Creek trail just outside Banff is a short but interesting hike with great views as you walk on catwalks over a stream. also look to the David Thompson highway east towards Calgary (and can continue on to badlands & hoodoos in Drumheller & best dinosaur museum at the Royal Tyrell)

also great for short hikes is the Kananaskis area south Banff

i developed & sold a series of jigsaw puzzles in the 90s, including one that allowed you to solve 2 images mixed together; but these days it's a very crowded market - there are sites like zazzle, creative et al that let you create your own products. allposters & fineartamerica are other sources, but it's really more about marketing

anyone producing jigsaw puzzles has access to myriad free images, or low cost extended licenses from microstock agencies

i often have problems with unsteady hands ( i find it impossible to take pix w a phone) but for my cybershot and dlsr i get great results by holding the camera out so that the strap acts as a brace. i use it when skiing where tripod or monopod aren't available
