I found the nest. Here are a few shots. Taken with Canon 60D, Tamron 150-600 mm lens at 600 mm and some serious cropping in LR. When I was leaving i spotted anothe viewing site and plan to go back since it was probably 50 yards closer.

W, if you're not gonna tell us where it is, why even announce it, just put up the pics!
Ahhh, they are either gonna be so GOOD or so BAD, that you're warning us. Got it!!!

I also have a pair of single vision glasses made for the distance I normally sit from the computer screen.

It helps when one of your friends is an Ophthalmologist. But arms-length should do it.

I also had my friendly optician craft a pair of bifocals for the computer. The biggest section is for computer reading while the bifocal section is for reading small print. I do not need glasses for distance.

I keep my photos on a portable drive, backed up to Carbonite, and when I import new photos to LR they are automatically backed up to a separate portable drive. In addition all of my files are backed up to a third drive every two hours. It took forever to get them on Carbonite, but getting the incremental changes is just done in the background. I can access my Carbonite files on my iPad and look at any photo.

I find that LR handles 90% of my editing needs.

 It does the same for me. The only time I now go into PS is when I need to do someting special like adding text, making composites and other jobs that require working with layers, plus some editing that is not yet available in LR

I noticed that you had a vignette around the photo of yourself. I assume you know how to do this in LR. Here is an example

I did almost the same thing, except I purchased two books on Lightroom. Lightroom can be complex, but once you understand how it works and does its job, it is an amazing piece of software and is extremely valuable!

The vast majority of the problems people have with Lightroom is simply that they don't understand the program. They have never taken the time and effort to learn how it works.

I have the CC version of Lightroom (and photoshop) and find it is amazing how many people are wrong about the "Adobe Creative Cloud," frankly, that is a very poor name for the way the subscription works.

The fact that you can have the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop for $10/month (plus tax) is amazing, even for non-professional photographers who may only take a few thousand photos a year.

Personally, I cannot provide enough positive comments for the CC versions of Lightroom and Photoshop!

Just one persons opinion!

My slide rule is a Post Versalog (LogLog Deci-trig), which got me through engineering school before the advent of all the hand held calculators. Taught me the value of significant figures. So I agree we should be skillful enough to be able to use our cameras manually.

I have no issues with automation, but I like to know how to bend it to my will. For me the situation is simple, I like to retain the option of being able to exercise control if I wish to. For me, that means the devices needs to be sufficiently controllable, and I need to know how to do things without automation if needed.

I can still take pictues with my Zenit E if I wish, and develop and print also.

Google doesn't make people stupid, but it can make people lazy. I believe we still need to develop basic skills, manual or automated. We need to understand how and why things work regardless of the sophistication of the tools we use.

I don't quite understand your problem. Are you trying to add white(or other colored) borders to your photo? I normally size the photo too what I want, i.e. 5x7, 8x10, 6x9, etc. and then either cut my own mats or buy them and frame pictures in 11x14, 11x13, 8x10 (for the 5x7), etc. You can resize your photos in LR before you export them. Don't know if this helps.

OK. Will look at it. I thought from my initial sign in to eoscount that it was free. So before I try, I will look carefully at dire studios.

Dngallagher wrote:
Good luck - you might want to compare what DireStudios has and the cost... eoscount is a pay per use deal, where dire studios is pay once for the software and use as many times as you like...

Thanks. I will give eoscount a try. Will let you know my result.

On most if not all Canon cameras you need software to read the shutter count when you connect it to the USB port on your computer....

Here are two programs to read the shutter count.
