I had the same issue and went to the "Genius" bar in Apple store . . . it turns out the iPad will only recognize the image if it is within a DCIM folder . . . try creating a DCIM folder on the SD card, THEN transfer the image file to the DCIM folder and plug it into the iPad adapter . . . it should show then in the "Transfer" file listings and you can move it to the iPad . . . GOOD LUCK!
