Looks good. I’ve gone away from using my multiple flash setup. The only advice I have is to experiment with the many lighting possibilities. These include adjusting the output on the units t create lighting ratios (modeling) moving the second unit around... using as a backlight.

Used creatively these can result in stunning work.

Thank you. I’ve been following your work as I learn about this genre of photography.

Thanks Sonny. Appreciate your feedback. I will continue to do this. I’m planning another excursion.... maybe in the Columbia River Gorge during the next dark sky phase. Although, I did my technical homework in preparation for this trip, there were logistical things that cropped up that I’ll file away for “next time”.

Great image - I too have been working on my stary night images and believe I captured my best last night - I credit that watching several Youtube videos on the subject my setup was - Canon T3i, tamron 18-200 @ 18 mm, F3.5,iso 1600 & 20 sec - my greatest changeling was getting the focus right - I set the focus at the farthest distance I could in the afternoon and taped the focus ring -

Love it. Some friendly tips: I recommend Royce Bair's ebook: http://intothenightphoto.blogspot.com/2015/01/milky-way-nightscapes-ebook-preview.html
I like that you've got some foreground trees, but it would be better to get a single "large" foreground item and light paint it during the exposure. Such as an old building, abandonded car, rock formation, interesting tree, etc. And finally, if you keep bumping the contrast and color you can make that photo spectacular! Happy hunting...

Thanks for the link and suggestions. I avoided light painting because I was with a “Star group” and adding light was a no no with the guide. He had a telescope set up and was showing us different star clusters, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, & Saturn. He explained how the early astronomers were able to debunk the theory of why the earth could not be the center of the universe. Used a lot of Trigonometry. Interesting....

I was off to the side but had to stay within the restricted area. It was on a private ranch in the hills outside of Sante Fe about an hour drive....

I’ve been following this group for some time and have long admired the images on this sub forum. I also downloaded several ebooks on astrophotography.

I was in New Mexico this past week which coincided with a new moon and the Perseid meteor activity. Unable to capture a meteor, however I did see one streak the entire length of the Dipper. Clearly, I have a lot to learn regarding best time of the night, setting up ahead of time, having a “safe light” so I don’t fumble in the dark.

This is the data:
Fuji XT2 with a 12mm f/2 Rokinon.
Location was on a ranch about 30 miles from Sante Fe, NM
Date/time: 8/11 9:50 pm
3200 iso 20 seconds wide open
Processing: +3.0 EC using the camera’s raw processor.

Thanks for all of the comments.
I used a Fuji xt2 with the Rokinon 12mm/f2 lens.
I was in New Mexico in the hills about 20 minutes out of Sante Fe.
3200 ASA, 20 sec exposure
Date: 8/11/18 9:50 PM
The only processing was +3 EC using the in-camera raw processor.

I knew about Ritz a long time before they have stores in the mall. They used to sell ruggedized cameras mail order.

They had a decent cracker. NaBisCo I think.

Would I be crazy to take a Fuji XT-2 (with f/2 prime lenses) on a trip where I will be predominantly shooting indoors in low light instead of my Nikon D850 with 24-70? I will be backpacking through mountains to some remote villages in Romania so I’m really conscious of weight but also really conscious of image quality. I have never used mirrorless so sorry if the question is naive!

Just crazy smart.

The problem with screw-on filters is that you need to focus first and then put on the filter, then for every new shot go through the "screw filter off - focus - put filter back on" routine. That's the system I have, and it works, but it can be a bit of a pain. It would be simpler just to be able to drop the filter into a holder and take it out again as needed.

There’s this: magnetic filter ring: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/968074-REG/xume_xla77_77mm_lens_adapter.html

The other issue with circular grads in the inability to move adjust the “horizon” line so one is stuck with a 50/50 sky composition. P
