My thanks to all that appreciated the shots of the classic cars from the Imperial Palace collection. I knew there would be some people out there from my age bracket that would appreciate seeing those grand old cars. A note concerning Avas Papa about the Harrahs collection being gone - most of the cars still are in a collection in Reno and are displayed beautifully. I'll try to get around to furnishing some photos from that and giving you the name of the museum sometime during the upcoming week. Also, I grew up in Connecticut and because of my father's job we moved 14 times during the 21 years before I started pilot training with the Air Force and my favorite place was Cheshire.

The Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas used to have one of the best collection of automobiles I have seen outside of the Harrah's collection in Reno and I always took time out to visit it whenever I was in town. There was an admission charge but if you entered through the front door of the casino there was usually someone handing out free tickets. The collection had one whole room devoted to Dusenbergs and had some truly remarkable automobiles. The last time I was in Las Vegas (2017) for a convention the Imperial Palace was no more but there was still an automobile museum but one that was much different than the original one. First of all, the entire collection of Duseys had been sold and almost all of the remaining cars were for sale. Here are a few of the better ones they had along with a full description of each with the asking price.

Nice photos of an airshow but there is one technical problem: When you photograph prop driven aircraft you don't want to use a shutter speed faster than 1/250 as any thing faster freezes the props and make it look like the engine is not running. I realize this is a small technicality to most folks but to a pilot it ruins the photo. When you use the slower shutter speed all you have to do is pan with aircraft. Of course with jets, use any shutter speed you want as there is no prop and they are usually going much faster.

Also, in regards to the comments about flying too close to another plane at that speed, here is a picture I took when I was flying F-100s that shows what it looks like from the pilot's viewpoint. To the pilots, it appears the planes are standing still and the scenery is moving. You will notice that none of the pilots is looking where they are going - that is the job for the pilot leading the formation and the rest are maintaining their relative position off the one closest to them. (this is a very simplified explanation of flying close formation)

Great photos of some historic old birds! I especially applaud your choice of a shutter speed that is not so fast that it freezes the props - yours are just right. Keep up the good work.

The most impressive weapon on the A-7 Corsair II that I flew with the Arizona Air National Guard was the Gatling Gun. It was an internally mounted 20mm cannon that had 6 barrels that rotated and had two rates of fire that were selected by a switch on the instrument panel. Low was 4000 rounds per minute and High was 6000 rounds per minute. For our training rides we only loaded the gun with 125 rounds and tried to make 5 short bursts. To do this, you put the pipper on the target and gave a very brief squeeze of the trigger. A common error our students would do at first was squeezing the trigger until they heard the gun fire and letting it go. If you did that at high rate, you would have fired 40 to 50 rounds! The gun was rotating so fast that it would eject roughly 5 unfired shells back into the collection bin before it stopped spinning.

I have driven by this array many times but only in the day - your shots make it really come alive! Good job!

I ran in to the same thing when I traded my Canon D-60 in on a Sony a6000 - the instruction manual was a joke and the gazillion items in the menu needed explaining. Fortunately there are aftermarket books that do an excellent job of taking you through every menu item and explaining it in depth. But when I became familiar with all the choices and then bought a Sony RX100 VI for a backup, I still had to get another book for that!

I have been gradually de-GASing my camera arsenal with the goal of ending up with two (maybe even just one camera). With that in mind, I am offering my Sony RX100 III for sale on UHH for $250. (check out Ebay and you will see this is a very good price) It is for UHH members only. The camera is in excellent working condition and has been my back up for my a6000 and served very well. It comes with a battery, Sony charger and cable for charging in the camera, and a Kingston 16gb 100X SD card. It also has a unique leather wrap around coating on the front of the camera that helps provide a more secure grip and looks like some of the classic more expensive cameras of other manufacturers. (see photos) For those of you that are not familiar with the Mark III, it solves the problem of not being able to see the image on the back screen in bright sunlight by incorporating a pop up electronic viewfinder. For all of the features, just look them up on a Sony or B&H website.
There is no box or instruction manual and for those of you that are not not familiar with the Sony menu system, if you purchase this I suggest that you go on Amazon and download one of the commercial instruction books as the Sony manual will not help you at all.
If you purchase this, I will stand behind it and accept returns if it does not measure up. Please reply by PM for answers to any questions you might have. I accept Paypal and at this price I will require $10 for shipping.

I bought this at B&H back when I was based out of Newark with airline. I had never seen one like it and was told it was a display model and they didn't expect to get any more. After looking at it for several minutes, I asked if they would sell the display model and a deal was struck. It has user adjustable partitions for the camera and lenses, lots of small compartments for filters, batteries etc. and then briefcase compartments on the outside for things like instruction manuals or maps or whatever.

To be honest, I have never used it to carry cameras and gear around using the shoulder strap but found it was just right to put on the back seat of my car as it is easy to find things when the flap is open. (see photos)

It is a very nice green in color with contrasting trim with leather support for the many straps and hold downs.
I no longer use it as I gone to minimilist equipment with no large heavy lenses etc.

I am asking $50.00 plus $10 for postage. PayPal for payment. If interested send me a PM.

I like the second one best because of the increased yellow cast - agree with Cany143 about the "Monet" feeling. I find the bank at the bottom to be a little distracting but I might not have even noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it. Nice work!

I have had both eyes corrected by surgery and was amazed at the ease and comfort level that I experienced. No pain, almost instantaneous eyesight correction and total satisfaction with the process. I chose to have the distance lens put in and my wife who had her procedures about the same time as me chose the close up lenses. I am very happy that I chose the distance lenses because this means I do not need corrective glasses for driving (I am 82) and my vision is corrected to 20/20. I have no trouble manual focusing since both my cameras have diopter adjustments in the viewfinder. I do have to wear glasses when reading or doing computer work but do not find this to be distracting. My wife, on the other hand has to wear corrective glasses when driving and it is so noted on her driver's license. This all boils down to it being a personal choice and with 25 years of flying jet fighters, my choice is see the "Big Picture" without glasses. Do it. You will love the results.
