It's light but the legs are pretty skinny. The head is next to worthless. Even at $320, I think you can do better by spending a little more. Maybe get one that does not require a center column extension to get to 5 ft in height.

What do you suggest Gene?

I am considering buying a more lightweight tripod than my Manfrotto 144 aluminum. I am looking at a Manfrotto Befree Gt carbon fiber tripod. Right now you get a $80 mail in rebate. Do any of you have any experience with this model?
I have a Nikon D7100 with my heaviest lens being the Nikkor 80-200 f 4.5.
What do you think?
I am pretty tall...6.2 feet.

Explain to her how much better your images will be and if you get the FX version you can use it when you spend thousands of dollars on a full frame camera some day. We would all like to know where that discussion goes!! P.S. Christmas and birthday presents were designed for new lens purchases, just sayin!! When my adult children asked me what I wanted for Christmas I pulled out the B&H ad and acted surprised on Christmas morning.

Well this is a subject worth examining a bit more. Is a full frame lens sharper on a dx body?
Answer: not nessecarily!
If you go to dxo mark and search a specific lens you can see what sharpness it will give. For example:
Dxo mark for Nikkor 18-140 (dx) will give you 11 mp. That lens is around $400.
A Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 gives You 12 mp but cost $1.500.
(Note all figures is for a Nikon D7100)
Can You tell the difference between 11 or 12 mp? NO!
Is the 24-70 worth the price on a dx camera...?
Of course the build quality is better, but is it worth it?
Actually some kit lenses are better than some full frame lenses on a dx camera!
Well...it’s all up to you to decide what to buy.

Of course. Air, water, electrons, when forced by a potential, will move following the path of least resistance which, depending on the body, may be the eyepiece.

Yeah, but Ken Rockwell said that it would blow out of the eyepiece INTO YOUR EYE!

This is in my opinion laughable. Air blowing out of the eyepiece while zooming??
Do this experiment:
Put the camera on a tripo
Cut a small piece of thread ( I used flytying, very thin thread)
Hold the thread at the eyepiece and zoom in and out
Does the thread move?
LOL...not an bit!

Still believe in the statement?

This statement is incorrect.
My Canon 5D doesn't (See page 17 of the instruction manual) and my Canon 350D/Rebel XT didn't (see page 15 of the instruction manual)

I'd already indicated to you - ALL DSLRs show the ISO in the viewfinder. When you told me YOURS did NOT - I assumed you had a Special Order D7100 …

OMG..you obviously don’t know what you are talking about!
I explained that the statement is totally wrong...so why don’t you just stop commenting on things you don’t know or understand!

There is another trick most ppl doesn’t know about. You can program the Fn button to work e as the ISO button. That means that you have the function close to your middle finger instead of down on the left side. This trick I learned from “the angry photographer”. However I didn’t really like it. I prefer to have the Fn button programmed to AE-L because I have the original AE-L set to BBF.

For Chris and Elmer information.
With my camera, a Nikon Df, the ISO is displayed in the viewfinder but when I press the shutter release half way it shows the buffer. I do have to enable ISO display in the custom setting.
In another thread someone asked what if the camera is on Auto ISO and shutter speed set to B? I found that when the shutter speed set to B the ISO went to the minimum ISO.

You are right BebuLamar! The Nikon D7100 shows the buffer ( remaining shots) also when you press the shutter button halfway, I just never thought of it. Thanks for informing!

Elmer - what are you saying I don't understand fully?

I told you - way back - mine was already set to show the ISO in the VF … but, perhaps you missed it …

You said earlier that ALL cameras shows ISO value in the viewfinder. I responded that my D7100 does show remaining picture count unless you go to custom menu and set ISO to be seen in the viewfinder.. You wondered if I had “a special order camera”, which told me that you don’t fully understand or know what you are talking about!

What do you mean ...shows the “buffer”?
Do you mean that it shows remaining pics you can take? If not..in what way does it show buffer??

BebuLamar:
That sounds right to me. I believe B on our D7100 that auto ISO goes down to minimum 100 also, but haven’t checked.
On D7100 you have to enable ISO display in the custom setting to be able to see it in the viewfinder. What Chris says is totally wrong...I guess he doesn’t understand fully.😊

Right now, Elmer - my D7100 shows ISO 640 ON the screen AND in the viewfinder. Are you telling me - that's NOT an accurate reading of the ISO?

Don’t press the ISO button!!
